Passing Stat Affects Pass Speed and Range

Chain Cup Play Style

Having a high Passing stat increases the pass speed and range of a character. The higher the stat is, the harder it will be to intercept due to its speed and players will be able to perform greater lobbed passes from afar.

These are great at passing the ball due to their high Passing stat. Luigi's balanced stats allow him to filfill many roles on your team, whereas Yoshi works well as a secondary scorer. Toad's High Speed and Donkey Kong's High Strength make them good in the Playmaker and Defender role respsctively.

Perfect Passes Cannot Be Intercepted

Mario Strikers Battle League - Perfect Pass

The Perfect Pass is the best kind of pass in the game, as it cannot be intercepted by opponents. There is, however, a timing to it in order to perform successfully.

Mastering the art of Perfect Actions will make matches easier and are essential especially when taking on Cup Battles in Galactic Mode!

How to Perform Perfect Actions

Learn and Practice Passing in Training Mode

You can learn and practice basic passing in Training Mode under the Passing lesson, but more advanced passing techniques are found in other lessons. Training Mode is a set of tutorial levels for Mario Strikers: Battle League where players can learn and practice the basics of the game.

Normal Pass

Normal Pass
How to Do
Press NSW - B towards your teammate

A standard pass. Best done by characters with a high Passing stat in order to reach your teammates quickly.

Free Pass

Free Pass
How to Do
Press NSW - B while holding NSW - L or NSW - zL

A Free Pass will have the character kick the ball stronger towards a certain direction without having another teammate to receive it. It is best done when you are being chased from behind and you want the ball away from your opponents.

Charged Free Pass

A variaton of the Free Pass is the Charged Free Pass, which you can execute by holding B instead of merely pressing it. Charged Free Passes can travel further and are much stronger than regular Free Passes.

Combo Pass

Press NSW - B right after receiving a pass

A Combo Pass is passing the ball back to the teammate who gave it to you. This is best done to confuse opponents or when you're anticipating a tackle you can't immediately dodge.

Lobbed Pass

How to Do
Press NSW - Y towards your teammate

When a player lob passes the ball, they will kick the ball upwards and the receiving teammate will catch it.

The chances of it being intercepted by opponents is slightly higher than normal passes, so it's best done when enemies aren't nearby.

How to Intercept a Lobbed Pass

Free Lobbed Pass

Free Lobbed Pass
How to Do
Press NSW - Y while holding NSW - L or NSW - zL

Similar to a free pass, but lobbed. Holding down Y and releasing it will make the free lobbed pass distance farther.

It is best done when you want to kick the ball over an opponent's head while sending the ball closer to the opposite field.

Combo Lobbed Pass

Press NSW - Y right after receiving a lobbed pass

A combo lobbed pass is lob passing the ball back to the teammate who gave it to you. This is best done in preparation for perfect shots.

Otherwise, it is recommended to do sparingly as it can easily be intercepted by your opponents.

Ricochet Pass

A Ricochet Pass is an advanced technique that can get the ball to your teammates with fewer chances of getting intercepted by your opponents.

Perform a Free Pass Towards a Wall

How to Do
(While aiming towards a wall), Press NSW - B while holding NSW - L or NSW - zL

Performing a Free Pass while aiming at the wall will cause the ball to bounce of the wall at an angle and heads towards it intended recipient. Holding down B and releasing it will make the free pass distance farther.

It is best used against persistent opponents who try to defend two players at the same time.

Using Boom Boom to Pass the Ball

How to Do
Press NSW - B while your character close to the goal

When Boom Boom has his hands on the ball, players use him to pass the ball to the character you're controlling provided that they're close to the goal.

If your character is next to the midfield or past your side of the field, pressing B will have Boom Boom free lob pass the ball to the midfield instead.
