Starting a match with the first possession can help your team win in Mario Strikers: Battle League. Read on to learn the different techniques you can use to quickly get the ball at the start of a match.

Tackle the Opponent

Tackle your opponent
You can strategically let your opponent get the ball right as soon as the match starts and tackle the opponent dribbling the ball. Keep in mind that this could backfire if your opponent anticipates this and dodges accordingly. This works best if you know your team's Captain has a higher Strength stat than the enemy's Captain.

Banana IconBanana ★★

Using the right item can also help you get the possession. Red Shell and Bob-omb are the best items you can have since they both attack the opponent in front of you.

While the Star is also a viable option, the Star should be saved for Hyper Strikes since it is a very rare item. Green Shells can also miss their target as well as bounce back and you hit instead. Should you have a Banana, it would be better to keep it for a more opportune moment, or place it when your opponent is right in front of you.
