Knowing how to shoot the ball properly can help give you an edge over your opponent in Mario Strikers: Battle League. Read on to learn the different ways of shooting the ball as well as tips and tricks on how to shoot properly.
In order to shoot the ball, you will need to be on your opponent's side of the field. Cross the line in the middle of the field and you will be able to shoot the ball.
Shooting the ball from your field will cause your character to lob the ball to the opponent's team, essentially giving them a free possession.
Shooting | The speed of your shot |
---|---|
Technique | Ability to curve shots |
High Shooting allows for faster shots, while high Technique lets you curve your shots easily. If you're having a hard time scoring goals, you may want to look into playing characters with high Shooting and Technique. You can also equip gear that adds Shooting and Technique to increase their speed and curve.

You can learn and practice basic shooting in Training Mode under the Moving & Shooting lesson, but more advanced shooting techniques are found in other lessons. Training Mode is a set of tutorial levels for Mario Strikers: Battle League where players can learn and practice the basics of the game.
List of Scoring Shots | ||
---|---|---|
Basic Shot | Charged Shot | Perfect Shot |
Aimed Shot | Combo Shot | Loose Ball Shot |
Shooting is the ball is one of basic techniques in the game. To perform a basic shot, simply tap A while in possession of the ball. Once again, you will need to be in your opponent's field otherwise you will end up lobbing the ball.
Charged shots are a lot stronger than basic shots. To perform a charged shot, hold A and then release. You can cancel it by pressing the B to pass or R button to dodge and fake your opponents if they're trying to stop you from shooting.
Canceling your shot and evading your opponents will also allow you to get a better angle at the goal. It might also bring you to your ideal spot for scoring.
A perfect shot is a variation of the charged shot where you hold A until it fills the circle below your character. This doesn't guarantee a score to the goal, but only increases the chance to score one.
How to Perform Perfect Actions
An Aimed Shot is another variation of the charged shot where you direct the trajectory of your shot to a certain area in the goal. This is particularly useful for confusing defenders and not allowing them to anticipate the direction of the shot.
High Shooting | High Technique |
---|---|
Aim for the near side |
Aim for the far side |
When shooting from the left or right side of the goal as opposed to shooting from right in front of it, it's easier to score a goal if you aim for the nearer side of the goal if your character has high Shooting. If your character has high Technique, you can aim for the far side of the goal.
Combo Shots can be performed by passing by pressing either B or Y then tapping A as soon as the receivers gets in contact with the ball. While this shot is a great way to score, it can be difficult to master. Make sure to be comfortable with direct passes as this can help greatly.
You can make a Perfect Combo Shot by pressing and holding the A button and shooting the ball as soon as your character receives the ball. This shot can get past defenders for a quick goal so make sure to try this in your games.
If you shoot the ball and it gets deflected by Boom Boom, chances are he will still be on the floor recovering from the block. At this point, the goal will be undefended and you can shoot the ball again for an uncontested goal.
Should you miss a Hyper Strike, Boom Boom will deflect the ball. During this time, you can try and attempt a follow up goal. Since each Hyper Strike is different, your opponents may or may not be able to defend your follow up goal.
