Each piece of the Bushido Gear Set increases one of the stats of a character by 4 and decreases each of the others by 1. Note that no Gear in the Bushido Set increases Shooting.
As such it's not recommended to wear the entire set at once as this will simply reduce the effects of all pieces. Characters should equip one or two pieces of the set to either push their strong stats to extremes or significantly boost one of their weaker stats.

Unfortunately, there are no unlockable characters currently available in Mario Strikers: Battle League, although Nintendo has confirmed that content updates and DLC will be released. Based on previous entries in the Mario Strikers series, we can probably expect fan favorites such as Daisy, Bowser Jr., and Diddy Kong to be playable in the future.
Are There Unlockable Characters?
More content will come into the game through DLC updates, specifically new characters. The good news is that some characters coming will be free and only needs to update the game.
We can only speculate that there might be more content like new game modes, gear, stadium customizations, and more that will make their way into the game.
