Do Charged Tackles

Mario Strikers Battle League - Charged Tackles
The most effective way to stop an attacking team is to tackle them. However, some characters have high strength and won't get downed with a simple tackle. You will need to charge up your tackle to stop their movements.

Perform Team Tackles if Needed

Team Tackle
There will be times that you will need to do a Team Tackle to prevent an enemy from advancing. Do a Team Tackle if there's no one else to defend aside from the goalie to instantly steal the ball.

Do note that it requires some practice and a little luck to do it perfectly.

Use Characters with High Strength Stat

The Strength stat increases the resistance to tackles, but it also increases the tackle power of a character. Using a character that has a high Strength stat can easily mow down enemies close by with a basic tackle.

Characters with high strength stat usually have large bodies as well, and they can use it to body-block the ball easily.

Use Items to Stop Opponents

Always remember that the goalkeeper's defense is not score-proof. When attacking, make sure at least one of the characters stays close to the center line, so it can go back fast if the enemies stole the ball and looking to counterattack.

Body-Blocking the Ball is Possible

You can use your own body to block a shot, so having a huge body like Donkey Kong can be advantageous for your team. You can take over the goalie's spot if it can't move or the goalie fails to stop the ball completely.
