Don't Dodge in the Direction of the Opponent

Good Bad

When dodging out of the way of a tackle, be sure not to dodge in the direction your opponent is coming from. This will cause your dodge to fail, so aim in a direction which will be advantageous to your next move, then tap R to dodge.

Bait CPUs into a Tackle, then Dodge

Mario Strikers Battle League - Lure CPU Opponents

The tackling behavior of CPU opponents is predictable and can be used against them. By simply holding the ball, opponents will invariably come in for a tackle, so timing this can allow you to dodge easily, putting one opponent temporarily out of commission and sometimes giving you a speed boost which you can use to try for a goal.

Remember to Dodge Green Shells

Aside from opponents' tackles, dodging can also be used to dodge Green Shells. These can also be avoided by dashing with ZR, but when you need to act fast, the dodge is an effective way to avoid Green Shells.

You Can Only Dodge Thrice Consecutively

Mario Strikers Dodging Thrice Consecutively

After dodging consecutively three times, you may notice that your character will become sweaty and tired. For around 5 seconds, you will be unable to perform any dodges with that character.

When this happens and an opponent is approaching you for a tackle, the best course of action is to pass the ball to another teammate. This tiredness does not carry over to other teammates.

As an alternative, you can move to the side or dash with ZR to dodge a tackle or avoid an enemy. If the area is not that crowded, it might be the best option to do and save the dodge when someone is already close by.

A Perfect Dodge occurs if you avoid an opponent's tackle at the last minute. After dodging, the player's surroundings will slow down momentarily, followed by a sudden increase in their dribble speed.

Dodging Benefits

Avoid Getting Tackled

Mario Strikers Battle League - Avoid Getting Tackled
You can prevent yourself from getting tackled in the field when you dodge. Anyone can tackle you even if you're not holding the ball, so it will be helpful if you can keep it in your mind to dodge when an enemy is trying to charge you.

Gain a Speed Buff

Receive a Speed Buff once you've successfully dodged a team tackle or charged tackle. It will be advantageous when attacking, for it can help you get past the defenders while having an extra buff that can increase your chances of scoring.

You will be able to see a bar getting filled when they're trying to do a charged tackle, and you should watch out for that!
