Killing Floor 3 (KF3) is set in the same universe as its predecessors, packed with more cunning Zeds, and horrifying gore. See the lore of the game, when it takes place, and everything there is to know about it here in this guide!
List of Contents

Zeds are bio-enhanced monsters engineered by the Horzine Corporation, the main antagonist of the whole Killing Floor franchise. Zeds come in varying forms and terror, each equipped with their own quirks that set them apart from each other.
Additionally, Zeds have their weapon affinities with which they're either weak or strong against. Clot Zeds, for instance, are strong against bludgeon and slashing attacks, and weak against sub-machine guns, which helps Specialists plan what type of weapons they carry in each campaign.

Zeds are also responsible to what's widely known as The Outbreak, a massive infestation of Zeds that rapidly spread, possibly, all over the world. The Outbreak also eventually caused its original CEO, Kevin Clamely, to become bio-enhanced as the Patriarch, a boss-type Zed, which came about after being cornered by the military.

Nightfall is the main protagonist body of the Killing Floor franchise, which was founded by Cordelia Clamely, granddaughter to the CEO of Horzine Corporation, Kevin Clamely. Nightfall is the considered as the HQ of the Nightfall Specialists, the six main playable characters in the game.

The Commando, an assault-style specialist adept at bruteforcing his way through the waves of Zeds. |

The Firebug specialist, the resident Arsonist of Nightfall specializing, aptly, in setting Zeds on fire. The Firebug is also a master of casting crowd-control attacks to help players gain more mastery over all types of situation. |

The Engineer specialist, a support-combat type unit who specializes in dishing out massive single-target damage while providing utility for the whole team. |

The Marksman specialist, who can single-handedly take down huge Zeds, minus the flare. Marksmans are the designated glass-cannons of any team, hence they require more team coordination when combatting against Zeds. |

The Ninja Specialist, a specialized melee-type combatant who excels in both direct assault and skirmish-types of attacks. |
List of All Specialist Characters

We can infer that Killing Floor 3 either happens within the year 2091 or sometime after based on the most recent Codex records in the game stopping at Year 2091.
These recent Codex records belong to the Queen Crawler and Chimera, and both are relatively new opponents in the series.

Most of Nightfall's operatives have their date of births between 2039 - 2068, which makes the year being 2091 or later more likely as the characters already seem aged and experienced with fighting the Zeds.
