You can unlock this by talking to the painter south of the The Gran' Place and only after finishing the quest The Warble of a Smitten Knight.
You cannot miss or fail this quest.

| 1 | Go to the Beauclair Palace and talk to the Painter. |
| 2 | Follow the painter and exmaine the clues using your Witcher Senses. |
| 3 | Follow the trail using your Witcher Senses and defeat the Nekkers. |
| 4 | Get the Paint Accessories and return to the painter. |
| 5 | Follow the painter and choose a pose. |
| 6 | After a day, go back to the painter south of The Gran' Place. |
You can get different paintings depending on what choices you made while talking to the painter.
The shield shown on the Standing Portait is dependent on what moniker you used in the tournament during the quest The Warble of a Smitten Knight.
