The best hat is the Ribbon. Although its defensive power is moderate, it can nullify most status effects, so equipping it is ideal despite its moderate stats.

The headgear Golden Hairpin is also a good headgear because it can reduce MP consumption. Some physical abilities other than magic often consume MP, and the more you progress through the game, the more your MP consumption will increase, so equipping this headgear is recommended.

The Brave Suit is the best light armor due to its ability to provide 1 BP at the start of the battle. It might not have the best defense but its ability is much more valuable as the 1 BP at the start of battle can be a game changer.

The strongest shield is the Aegis Shield. It has excellent defense, magic defense, and evasion, and also immune to Dread.
Shield that Nullify Element are Good in Certain Situations
The Dark Shield, Lustrous Shield, and Iceflame Shield nullifies the attack of dark, light, and fire/water respectively. It is a good idea to equip a shield depending on what element the enemy is using.
