Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster - Brave and Default

This is an explanation of Brave and Default mechanics in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. Learn more about what Brave and Default are, as well as tips on how to manage BP in this article.

Brave and Default Explanation

Brave and Default Affects Number of Actions and Defense

Brave allows the character to do multiple actions within one turn while Default reduces the damage taken by accumulating BP (Brave Points).

Using Brave or Default effectively can turn the tides of battle to your favor. Managing your BP is essential when using these tactics.

Brave Explained

Brave is a command that increases the number of actions that you can take within a turn in exchange for consuming BP.

You can act up to 4 times per turn which means that it is effective when clearing regular enemies or when you want to defeat an enemy in one go (assuming you have enough damage to dish out during your Braves).

Default Explained

Default allows you to take a defensive stance to reduce damage and gain one Brave Point. You can store up to 3 Brave Points which you can use to unleash a barrage of attacks on your next turn.

Brave Points Details

• BP increases during the battle through automatic recovery each turn or when you use Default. It is consumed when using Brave or using skills that require BP.
• When BP becomes negative value, you will be unable to take any action and will remain unable to act until your BP gradually recovers back to 0 as the turns progresses.
• The minimum BP limit is -3 while the maximum you can store is +3. Note that some abilities can increase this up to +4.
• Brave can be used up to three times per turn, while Default can only be done once per turn.
• You can perform a Brave move even if you have no BP. However, note that your BP will drop into the negatives for each Brave you do.

When to Use Brave and Default & BP

Brave or Default Depending on the Situation

If you are fighting regular mobs of enemies, you can use Braves to end the fight quickly. Just be careful to not let every character's BP go into negative. For boss fights, it is important to use Default to save BP, as well as reduce the damage taken against their attacks.

Take Note of Job Abilities that Require BP

Commands such as Valkyrie's Acrobatics and Spiritmaster's Spiritism have abilities that consume BP to be used and the more they consume, the stronger the damage is.

However, if your BP becomes negative, you will be unable to act in the next turn, so when using an ability after a Brave, you must carefully check your current BP. The default count of BP is 0 at the start of a battle.

We recommend saving BP first by using Default before you use abilities that consume BP so you can move immediately on the next turn.
