Reason for Recommendation |

Nothing Ventured (Lv 1) |
During the turn it is used, if a single target physical attack is received, the counterattack deals double the damage of a normal attack, and physical damage received is halved. |
The Worm Turns (Lv 12) |
On the turn it is used, if you receive damage equal to or greater than 60% of your maximum HP from a single target attack, you will counterattack, dealing 7.5 times the damage of a normal attack. |
Know Thine Enemy (Lv 10) |
After using this ability, single-target attacks from the designated enemy focus on you, making it easier to reliably activate counterattack abilities. Its strength lies in its ability to counter both physical and magical attacks. |
Counter (Lv 6) |
When hit by a single physical attack, there's a 60% chance to counter with damage equal to a normal attack. Combine this with other counterattack abilities to unleash even more brutal damage. |
The Swordmaster learns multiple potent counterattack abilities that excel at dealing incredible damage against single-target physical attacks by drawing enemy focus. For example, Nothing Ventured unleashes a counterattack dealing double normal damage when the user takes a single-target physical hit. Similarly, The Worm Turns counters with 7.5 times normal damage when the user receives damage equal to or greater than 60% of their maximum HP from a single attack.
By successfully directing enemy attacks and activating these potent counter abilities, you can inflict significant damage in a short turn. However, these counter abilities have specific trigger conditions, such as only when taking a single-target physical attack. This requires you to understand enemy attack patterns and choose the best counterattack method. While difficult to land against foes that frequently use area-of-effect attacks, focusing enemy aggression on yourself can lead to significant returns.
The Swordmaster is a physical attacker who excels at countering enemy attacks. While they don't have many direct offensive abilities, they can inflict significant damage through their counterattacks. Their high proficiency with katanas makes it easy to boost their damage output through equipment, but the key to their effectiveness lies in how you draw enemy attacks to yourself.
To fully utilize the Swordmaster's counterattack abilities, effectively drawing enemy attacks to yourself is crucial. For instance, you can use Piracy's Provoke or Ninja's Puppet Master to increase your targetability. Alternatively, protecting allies with abilities like Chivalry's Full Cover while taking attacks yourself can help trigger counterattacks more easily.
However, against enemies that frequently use area-of-effect attacks, counter abilities offer less benefit. In such cases, consider switching your subcommand to Martial Arts or Piracy to initiate attacks yourself.
