Ability (Learning Level) |
Reason for Recommendation |
---|---|
Convert MP (Lv 11) |
10% of the damage received is recovered as MP, so the more intense the enemy's attacks, the easier it is to recover MP, making it easier to cast powerful summoning spells repeatedly. |
Summon in Pinch (Lv 13) |
When in critical condition during battle (HP below 20%), a learned summoning spell will activate randomly. This effect does not consume MP. However, it will not trigger if damage is caused by poison. |
Summoning Surge (Lv 12) |
Each time you use summoning magic, damage increases by 1.1 times, up to a maximum of 2.6 times. This is extremely effective against consecutive battles or bosses with high HP. |
Summon Substitute (Lv 9) |
When incapacitated, you can randomly activate a summoning spell you have learned to try and turn the tide (however, please note that this will not activate in situations where you will not receive damage or if you are declared to die instantly). |
Summoners are magic attackers who utilize their high maximum MP and intelligence to unleash powerful summoning magic, a type of area-attack magic. Although their spells consume a lot of MP, their greatest advantage is their ability to sustain MP even in long battles, as they can recover 1% of the damage they take as MP thanks to their job specialty, Convert MP.
Summoners are unique in their ability to efficiently unleash powerful area-of-effect magic spells. By utilizing Convert MP to compensate for MP shortages and Summon Surge to rapidly amplify damage, they have the power to dominate everything from small fry to boss battles in a single move. Even in prolonged battles where MP tends to run low, you can recover MP through Convert MP, allowing you to sustain attacks while also fulfilling a healing role.
The Summoner's primary means of attack are area-of-effect summoning magic spells, which can be learned by challenging the Anchorites in the crystal temples. Since Summoners can harness multiple elements—such as fire with Prometheus’s Fire and water with Ziusudra’s Sin—they can inflict devastating damage on enemies with elemental weaknesses.
The summoning magic they learn has different attributes, making it easier to exploit enemy weaknesses and enabling them to remain effective across a wide range of situations. Among these, Susano-o is the only non-elemental summon. Its power is set high, making it a reliable option when light or dark elemental methods are scarce.
Despite their versatility, summoning magic spells are always area-of-effect attacks, meaning they cannot target specific enemies. To compensate for this limitation, when fighting a boss or a strong enemy, you can efficiently reduce HP by focusing your attack on a single target using the Arcanist’s ability, Convergence.
The damage dealt by summoning magic depends heavily on magic attack power (INT). By combining it with the Black Mage’s Pierce M. Defense, you can ignore the enemy’s magic defense and deal massive damage in a single strike.
