What are Special Moves?

Finishing Moves That Vary by Weapon Type

Special moves are finishing moves that deal great damage to enemies. Different special moves can be used for each weapon type, and some can even heal or strengthen all allies.

Increases Status for a Certain Period of Time

A major feature of Special Moves is that after activating a special move, a power-up time of about 90 seconds will start, during which all allies will be in a powered-up state.

If you use another special move during the power-up time, the effects will overlap and be extended, allowing you to significantly increase your firepower and support performance by chaining them.

There's no limit to how many stacks you can achieve when using different weapons or special moves; by combining them well, you can sustain attacks while maintaining the strengthening state for an extended duration.

How to Use Special Moves

Meet Conditions During Battle

To use a special move, you must meet the conditions set during battle . For example, a sword special move will be unlocked after a certain number of actions, such as using Brave a certain number of times.

Special moves also have levels, from 1 to 3; higher levels offer greater power but have more difficult unlocking conditions. Once you use a special move of any level, its usage count resets. However, this count carries over even if you switch weapons, so be sure to use this to your advantage.

Examples of Conditions for Using Special Moves

Weapon Special Move Level Condition
Sword 1 Use Brave 10 times
Sword 2 Use Brave 20 times
Sword 3 Use Brave 30 times

If you successfully activate a high-level special move, the damage you deal will increase significantly, and its effect during power-up time will also be greater, giving you a chance to turn the tide of battle in one fell swoop.

Use Parts to Strengthen Special Moves

As you progress with the reconstruction of Norende Village, you can obtain Special Move Parts. You can set these parts in the Special Moves menu to further strengthen a moves activated effect.

The types of parts you can set depend on the special moves type: Attack types can add attributes or increase power, while Strength types can increase stats. Each character can equip different parts, making strategic decisions about who gets what crucial for success.

Can You Still Use Special Moves if You Equip a Different Type of Weapon?

Use Special Moves of Each Weapon Type

If you equip different weapons in your right and left hands, you can use different special moves with each weapon. For example, if you equip a sword and a spear at the same time, you can use a special move with the sword and then a special move with the spear.

Use Two Types of Special Moves Consecutively to Extend Boost

When a special move is activated, a 90-second power-up time begins, increasing the stats of all allies. If another special move is used during this power-up time, its effects will overlap and extend the duration, allowing you to chain successive special moves.

If one character holds different weapons in each hand, they can activate two special moves consecutively. With a full party of four, each wielding two distinct weapons, you can activate up to eight consecutive special moves.

By combining special moves from different weapons, you can effectively extend and maximize your power-up time. In boss battles and long fights, the key to victory isn't just raw firepower, but also the ability to repeatedly use a variety of special moves, including those for buffs and debuffs.
