You can get this quest by entering Hattori's shop in Novigrad and speaking with him.

Is Of Swords and Dumplings Missable or Failable?

You cannot miss or fail this quest even if you finish all the main quests of the game.

Of Swords and Dumplings Walkthrough

Objectives
1 Go to Hattori's house and speak with him.
2 Meet Hattori at the docks during the night.
3 Follow Hattori to negotiate with Tinboy.
4 Defeat Cleaver's henchmen and escape the ambush.
5 Go to Hattori's shop and speak with him.
6 Go to the Golden Sturgeon, defeat Sukrus in a fist fight and speak with him.
7 Convince the merchant to pay Sukrus. (You need Level 3 Delusion equipped for this option.)
Destroy the barrels of mead and defeat the bandits.
8 Go back to Sukrus and speak with him.
9 Go to Hattori's shop and speak with him.
11 Speak with Sukrus and meet him and his men in front of van Hoorn's warehouse at night.
12 Speak with the dwarf guarding the warehouse and enter the warehouse after.
13 Use your Witcher Senses and mark the chests that smell of ammonia.
14 Go out of the warehouse and defeat van Hoorn and his men.
15 Speak with Hattori and get the sword he promised you.

Choices

Objective 7 Choice: Deal with the Merchant

Witcher 3 Choice Merchant

During this conversation you have two options given to you by Sukrus on how to deal with the merchant. You can convince the merchant by using Axii (You need Level 3 Delusion equipped to use this option) on him to make him pay his debt or you can exit the conversation and destroy the mead barrels on his ship.

Objective 12 Choice: Dwarf Guard

Witcher 3 Choice Dwarf

In this conversation, you are free to choose any option when speaking to the dwarf. Picking any option will always get you into the warehouse. In order to use the Axii option, you need to have Level 3 Delusion equipped.

Questing Tips

Hattori's House Location

Witcher 3 Location Hattori

You can find Hattori's house in Novigrad if you fast travel to Glory Gate and turn left at the road after crossing the bridge to Novigrad.

Blade from the Bits

After you defeat van Hoorn and speak with Hattori again, you can ask him about the sword he promised you and he will answer that you will have to wait a few days before getting it.

NOTE: You can immediately get the sword he promised you after meditating for one whole day in the game.

Combat Strategies

Humans and Nonhumans

  • Coat your Steel Sword with Hanged Man's Venom to deal bonus damage to them.
  • Cast crowd control skills like the Aard Sign and Axii Sign to give yourself an opening to attack them.
  • In the battle where you fight Cleaver's henchmen, you need to defeat the dwarves while protecting Hattori.
