How to beat Orthros

Details

Orthros is a Rank V mark with a unique condition. It will not appear in battle if the party consists of three males or even a female and two males, or a male and two females. The battle will start when there are only females in the party. It is a flan-type enemy and can also be fought in Trial Mode, along with Two Mousses. It is also weak to Fire while it absorbs Water-element attacks.

Moveset

While physical attacks are generally ineffective against this boss, he isn't immune to them. He is particularly fond of the spells Immobilizega and Slowga, and will also use Mythril Bubbles. Of these attacks, the party should lookout for Mythril Bubbles, as this attack will instantly cast any number of status afflictions on the player.

Strategy

If the player's party can already use Reflect, that is an effective offensive weapon against Orthros. He can go down pretty fast from the combo of Reflect + Fire/ra/ga since he's weak to the Fire element. If you have a White Mage, have him or her wear an accessory that allows your healing spells to pass through the Reflect paling.

Orthros is also susceptible to the Sleep status. You can cast Sleep on him, or use the Nihopalaoa + Remedy trick to get him to sleep. Afterwards, a summon such as Belias, an all-out attack with Magick, or a combination of Fire-element Magicks and Weapons should do the trick.
