| Florence Review |

| Florence is one of the strongest and easiest characters to use in Black Beacon, making her one of the limited 5-Star characters that is worth getting for new players. She particularly excels at burst damage, meaning players will have to learn how to switch characters quickly after her attacks, as well as get used to her relatively long skill animations. |

| Florence di Cosimo de' Florentine, a member of the Cardinal Court in the Holy Cardinal Nation of Japheth, the youngest cardinal in history, the current Duchess of the Florentine family, chairman of the Florentine Banking Group, and honorary dean of "Spring" at the Bellefontaine Academy of Arts. This string of titles is only part of the honors and responsibilities she has inherited. Nineteen years ago, amidst joyous prayers, Florence was born. As the sun rose over the horizon, her father lifted her up towards the window. When she opened her eyes for the first time, she saw the most beautiful scenery in the world—Bellefontaine. According to the ancient and solemn rituals of Japhetic Ethics, little Florence was baptized in the presence of seven elders. She was enviable, for she was to become the heir to one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Japh and the world—the Florentines. |
| Second Story |
|---|
| (Bellefontaine Report, March 14) Recently, both the market and the public have been closely watching the developments in Japh. During his lifetime, Cosimo kept his family away from the media, so little information about his daughter Florence was publicly available. Since Cosimo's death on February 10, Florence has not made any public appearances for over a month. However, this low profile may soon end, as March 15 is the third Wednesday of March, the most important traditional festival in Japh—the Oath Festival. Traditionally, the Duke of Florence should appear at the Oath Festival celebration. As part of the necessary education for the Duke's heir, she was sent to the "Spring" Academy, an artistic sanctuary established by the Florentine family, where she received rigorous vocal training. Photos of the six-year-old Florence can be found in the Academy's annual new student group photos. However, her absence in the graduation photos over the years has never been officially addressed by either the Duke's office or the Academy. An anonymous individual who attended the Academy with Florence revealed to this newspaper (confirmed through investigation that this person indeed appears in the freshman group photo with Florence) that Florence was very diligent during her time at the Academy, receiving much praise from her teachers. Only once was she severely reprimanded—on that day, the teacher discovered Florence had copied a bizarre piece of music onto her sheet music. The melody was extremely jarring, dissonant, and even terrifying, conjuring thoughts of wailing, blood, and broken bones. The teacher called it a “song from hell” and demanded to know where Florence had copied it from. At that moment, the Florentine family housekeeper, who was supposed to wait outside, entered the room, politely apologized to the teacher, and took Florence away. The anonymous source stated that this was the last time they saw Florence in a music class at the academy. This newspaper contacted Florentine Bank to inquire whether Duchess Florence would attend the Oath Festival celebration, but Florentine Bank refused to comment on non-business matters. |
| Third Story |
|---|
| Upon assuming the title of Duchess of Florentine, Florence also inherited many of her father’s wishes, one of which is now known to the world as the Grand Basilica of Flowers. However, the Grand Basilica of Flowers was not built by Florence's father; its design originated from a previous Duke of Florentine generations ago. Over the years, the Basilica has remained unfinished. Since its inception, the Cardinal Court has resisted the project, mainly on the grounds that it “disrespects Japhetic Ethics.” By the time of Florence's father, the Court's opposition had nearly turned hostile. To ease tensions between the Florentine family and the Court, construction of the Basilica had to be halted multiple times. The frequent stoppages led the public to question what was really happening between the Cardinals and the Duke. Perhaps as compensation for the long delays, successive Florentine dukes added their own ideas to the design during the downtime. However, this only made each subsequent construction phase longer. After taking over as Duke, Florence decided to take the design of the Grand Basilica of Flowers out of the Florentine mansion's study and publicly exhibit it in Bellefontaine. She invited artists and architects from all over Japh to contribute more beautiful designs, which led to a new peak in criticism from the Cardinal Court. Many described Florence's actions as blasphemy against Japhetic Ethics, but Florence responded: "This is a beautiful gift from Bellefontaine to Japhetic Ethics, and I hope it will be completed by the hands of Bellefontaine's people." |

| The outer side of the Florentine signet ring is engraved with the maxim: "Japhetic Ethics is the most beautiful, and the most beautiful is Japhetic Ethics." According to tradition, the Duke of Florence, when making the most solemn promises, would clasp their hands and kiss the ring on their index finger, symbolizing a vow made with the credibility of the Florentine name, personal honor, and the Duke's status—pledging before Japhetic Ethics with no chance of reneging. Thus, each Duke's crest ring has witnessed their coronation and wedding ceremonies. Florence has removed this ring in front of only a few people, so few are aware of the inscription inside. No one knows what feelings led her to engrave those words herself. |

Florence can already boost her Pierce stat through her weapon buffs, allowing her to potentially reach up to 100% Pierce with the right setup and team composition (though reaching 40% is usually sufficient). Since Critical Hit Rate and Critical Damage are more crucial for main DPS units, it's recommended to prioritize raising these two stats first before focusing on Pierce.
For her marks, Endless March is the best 10-piece set for Florence, granting a 3.5% Pierce increase each time she uses a skill, stacking up to five times for a total of 17.5% during a full rotation. For her 5-piece sets, Phoenix Tail is the primary choice as it directly boosts her overall DPS, taking advantage of her Derived damage skills. Shining Star is an excellent secondary option, helping her charge her Ultimate skill faster for increased damage and efficiency.
Although Jade Crane is another strong 5-piece option to enhance her Ultimate damage, it’s less of a priority and can be skipped if you lack the marks needed to fully maximize its effect.
This Ancient Mark recommendation was made based on the assumption that all characters involved have the 5-star version of their weapons.

| Skill | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Domination | The core of Florence's skillset and affects the damage of all her other attacks. Upgrading this first benefits the rest of her skills. |
| Falling Petals/Blossom Dispersal | A powerful and fast attack that does not leave Florence as vulnerable to damage as her second skill does. |
| Blaze Flower | Her ultimate skill deals massive amounts of damage and even gets a damage upgrade if she's at Potential Level 2 (instead of dealing Ultimate Damage, Blaze Flower deals Derived Damage - the same kind of damage dealt by Florence's Domination-enhanced skills. |
| Flower Dance/Blooming Rage | A powerful second skill, though the animations take long to finish. Use just before Florence is switched out to the next character so that it can be swap canceled (the next character swaps in while Florence is in the middle of making the move, minimizing the damage she would've received. |
| Ascending Blade | Combo skills are not as used as often as the other skills, so they're not as big of a priority to upgrade. |
| Monarch Swordsmanship | The only time you will be using Florence's basic attacks is when you need to gain more stacks of Monarch's Stance somehow. It's okay not to upgrade these at first since they're not the character's main sources of damage. |
The skills listed here have been arranged in order of priority, with the topmost skill being the highest priority.
Florence needs to get her Passive, First Skill, and Ultimate upgraded as soon as possible to maximize her damage. If you have resources to go toward her second skill, upgrade that as well. Her Combo and Basic Attack are not as essential as the four skills mentioned but can be upgraded later on once you have the resources.
DISCLAIMER: Due to Hephae's signature weapon being bugged, we have opted to remove her from Florence's best team list until the bug is fixed.
| Assist (First Strike) |
Breaker / Assist |

|---|---|---|
Zero

Ming
|
Florence
|
A relatively simple but effective team. A post-Breakthrough Level 1 Zero triggers her Attack buff, followed by Ming who quickly generates enough Candle Shadow points to use her second skill, Gleaming Light, which grants her a cloak of Fire for ten seconds.
Immediately switch to Florence and use the short version of her rotation. Not only does she deal extra damage with Zero's buff, but elemental damage with Ming's buffs as well, making it easy for her to pull off the Burning Elemental Anomaly.
| Character | Explanation |
|---|---|
Asti | Assist Asti's c.ATK buffs are beneficial to Florence's total damage output and is available as soon as you start the game. |
Ninsar | Assist Ninsar is an amazing unit that can help Florence with her damage resistance buffs and ATK buffs. |
Viola | Assist Viola is a great Breaker unit since her rotation is quick and easy to execute while giving you more uptime to use Florence. |

Zero

Hephae

Florence
|
Another team composition that replaces Ming for Hephae to increase survivability and focus on the synergy of Hephae's Elemental Mastery and Anomaly buffs.
This team does take a little more time to activate Hephae's passive, but is a relatively safer way to bring in Florence without taking too much damage.
| Assist (First Strike) |
Breaker | Destruction |
|---|---|---|
Zero
|
Logos
|
Florence
|
Just like the above team setup, Zero pulls off her Attack buff, Logos (who should be at least Breakthrough Level 2) sets up a Note, then switches over to Florence - who can do either the short or long version of her rotation depending on how long Zero's Attack buff lasts.
Not only does Florence get to deal extra damage with an increased chance to inflict Elemental Overload on her enemies, but she also gets passive healing courtesy of Logos' notes. Great for fights that are expected to drag out.
| Assist (First Strike) |
Breaker | Destruction |

Zero
|
Ninsar
|
Florence
|
While the teams listed in her best teams as of writing are already low-budget, an even more low budget version would be to use Ninsar instead of Hephae or Ming since she is completely free when starting out. Aside from Florence, all the other characters are easy to invest in even with resources provided in-game.
| Strengths | |||
|---|---|---|---|
|
• Powerful main skills that deal damage to both single targets and groups of enemies. • Easy-to-learn skill rotation that anyone can handle. • Requires minimal investment in terms of potential to be effective. Any further copies would further improve an already good unit (though still recommended). • Burning Elemental Anomaly deals good damage to enemies; it is recommended to pair with other elements to deal further damage through Elemental Overload. |
|||
| Weaknesses | |||
|
• Skill animations take a relatively long time to finish, so she will take damage from enemies (though this can be minimized with swap canceling). • Once her rotation is done, her skills take a long time (up to 30 seconds) to cool down, so she has to be switched out quickly for another character. • Could have trouble dealing with highly mobile or fast enemies because of the length of her skill animations. |
Florence is a powerful DPS unit that can defeat enemies fast with high burst damage. Her skill set is easy to use and easy to learn for new players, and she requires minimal investment in terms of copies. She is only held back by her long skill animations and longer skill cooldowns, which can cut her rotation short if a player is not careful with using her.
Florence's skill rotation can be short or long depending on what kind of buffs you want her to have when she's dishing out damage. This rotation allows her to take advantage of many buffs, from Zero's ATK buff to buffs with shorter durations such as Ming's Fire Cloak.
When you switch to Florence, use the second skill immediately to deal damage and activate her passive Domination mode. Domination mode allows her to gather stacks of Monarch's Stance, which increases the damage to her skills, which have been changed and enhanced by her Domination stance.
While still in her Domination stance, uses Florence's first skill two times. Instead of Falling Petals, the skill has become Blossom Dispersal, which makes her lunge forward and damage any enemy that's in the way. Great for large enemies with lots of coverage as well.
By this point, Florence may already be running out of Monarch's Stance stacks. So, finish her rotation off with the enhanced version of Flower Dance, Blooming Rage, where she spins her sword, dealing damage to the enemy, before slamming down on them with an AoE attack.
It's very likely that Florence's skills have to cool down at this point (by up to 30 seconds, so switch her out quickly with another character in your party so they can do their skills while Florence is still recovering.
| Combo |
|---|
| Falling Petals x1 → Use Blossom Dispersal/Blooming Rage until you have one Monarch Stance stack remaining → Do 2-4 Basic Attacks to build up Monarch Stance stacks → Use Blossom Dispersal x2 → Blooming Rage x1 → Switch out for another character. |
This is a longer version of Florence's skill rotation that's great to use with support characters that give out buffs with long durations (such as Zero and her Attack buff). The only thing you need to be careful of is accidentally using up all of Florence's Monarch's Stance stacks (though even then, you've already expended her most useful skills at least once).
| Potential | Explanation |
|---|---|
| P2 | This Potential-related upgrade essentially extends her rotation by one more round as it maxes out her Monarch Stance stacks after using her ultimate skill. If you can't invest in her too much, settling at Potential Level 2 is good enough. |
| P1 | Makes it so that if you enter Domination mode with her basic attacks, she can deal extra damage with her enhanced skills once before her Monarch Stance stacks are replenished. A nice upgrade, though not too useful if you intend to switch her out often. |
| P6 | Makes Florence even deadlier by giving her an increased chance to deal critical hits with her attacks and increases that critical damage. Like all her other potential upgrades, this is not essential but one of the nicest upgrades to have. |
| P3 | Blossom Dispersal gets to deal more damage. Nice to have if you are shooting for her P6 upgrade. |
| P5 | An upgrade for her more powerful enhanced second skill, Blooming Rage. Nice to have as well if you plan to go all the way with raising Florence's potential. |
Some potentials were removed due to only being useful for Skill Enhancement or are still being assessed.
