The first way you can gather Rune Shards is by clearing Missions in the Main Quest. Each mission has a reward of 50 Rune Shards for simply playing the mission (or in some cases, watching a cutscene), and clearing 3 of any main quest mission is equal to one Time-Seeking Key.

To a lesser extent, fighting and beating bosses in Echoes of the Past missions also earns 30 Rune Shards per first-time clear. So, if you were able to beat the boss in Easy, Normal, and Hard Modes, that is equal to 90 Rune Shards per boss. Resource missions also give out small amounts of Rune Shards per first-time clear.

Another way to get free Rune Shards is to raise your Seer Level and claim them from the Seer Level Rewards from Anzu in the Home Screen. After claiming your Level 7 reward, Rune Shards are given out every five levels.

Head Librarian's Authority missions in Black Beacon's EX mode test your skills with certain game concepts via sets of challenges.

If you clear the missions within these challenges and get at least 6 stars, you can get up to 60 Rune Shards per challenge.

Similar to Head Librarian's Authority challenges, Brute Force Mode will also reward you with Rune Shards if you reach a certain number of points after playing it. The more points you get, the more Rune Shards you are rewarded with, at a rate of 30 Rune Shards per milestone.

Completing your Daily and Weekly Missions can get you an income of up to 305 Rune Shards or two Time-Seeking Keys per week. Unlike all the other sources of Rune Shards we've mentioned so far, this source is somewhat renewable.

Whenever a new character comes out in Black Beacon, there will always be a new set of Character Trials with characters that players can test out. Not only do you get a taste of the power of new characters, but you can also get 20 Rune Shards per first-time clear.

Logging in consistently during a month can get you up to 80 Rune Shards from Black Beacon's Log-in Bonus. That's on top of the other resources and rewards that are given out daily.

Raising your Character's Breakthrough Level also gives Rune Shards. For every Breakthrough Level reached, the game will give you 50 Rune Shards.

To get more Rune Shards, you will need to buy Rune Stones from Black Beacon's Rune Stone Shop first. These Rune Stones can then be converted to Rune Shards, which you can then use to buy Time-Seeking Keys or Lost Time Keys.

If you want to have a consistent supply of Rune Shards, you can also buy the Supply Difference Machine, which not only gives you 300 Rune Stones straight-up but also 90 Rune Shards daily plus supplies like Orelium. Each purchase lasts for 30 days and equals to 2700 Rune Shards + the equivalent in Rune Stones.

Black Beacon's battle pass comes in two variants: High-Dimensional Computation and Infinite Computation. The first variant gives 600 Rune Shards while the second variant gives a total of 1200 Rune Shards, equivalent to 8 Time-Seeking Keys.
Aside from the Rune Shards, the battle pass also gives free Lost-time Keys, Time Seeking Keys, Spherical Fruits (for Clarity) and various Develop Items to level up your characters and weapons with.

The primary reason to gather Rune Shards is so you can use them to buy Time-Seeking Keys, which are the gacha tickets used in BB to pull from its limited 5-Star character banners and other similar banners.
Rune Shards can also be used to buy Lost Time Keys, though these are also given out through various means while playing the game.
How to Buy Time-Seeking Keys
---
1. From the Home Screen, go to the Store tab.
2. Once in the Store, select the Retrieval Redemption tab.
3. In the Retrieval Redemption Store, select the Key Store.
4. Select the key you want to buy and pay the necessary amount of Rune Shards. If you don't have enough Rune Shards, you can buy Rune Stones and convert them to make up the difference.

If you want to play the game for a bit longer but you've already run out of Spherical Fruits, you can buy Clarity with Rune Shards at a rate of 40 Rune Shards per 80 Clarity.
