One of the first ways players will be getting Orelium in-game is by progressing through the Main Quest. Once you clear certain missions within a chapter, you will be rewarded a free Lost-Time Key, one random Develop Item, and a few thousand Orelium.
Main quest progression will be your primary source of develop items in the early game, so progress through the main quest as much as you can.

Missions with first-time clear rewards such as the Echoes of the Past give Orelium as a reward to players. The harder the stage, the more Orelium is given out.

Further on in your playthrough, players will unlock Resource missions that give access to different sets of missions that give out Develop Items.

One of these mission sets is Orelium Haven, which has Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme levels. The harder the mission, the more Orelium you get at the end.

Raising your Seer Level also periodically gives out Orelium via Level Rewards. You can always claim Level Rewards from Anzu, the bird on your desk in the Home Screen.

The Pure Energy Bonus (or P.E. Bonus) also gives out Orelium by raising your P.E. Bonus level and completing Daily, Weekly, and Active Missions.

The Pure Energy Bonus serves as Black Beacon's version of a battle pass. If you buy the premium version of the P.E. Bonus (High-Dimensional Computation or Infinite Computation), you can potentially get double the amount of Orelium from the P.E. Bonus rewards.

Head Librarian's Authority missions test your ability to use skills related to the Director's Pendant. Completing these missions gives out both Orelium and Develop Items that can strengthen your character and their weapons.

Depending on the Event happening in Explore Mode missions, you can get Orelium by clearing Achievements related to the event.

Brute Force Mode requires you to survive for as long as possible while scoring as many points as possible. Depending on your score, you can be rewarded Orelium along with other rewards such as Rune Shards and Develop Items.

Logging in consistently can get you up to 14,500 Orelium per month through the game's Log-in Bonus.

The 7-Day Quest for new players is a start-dash event that can give players up to 235,000 Orelium if all the objectives are completed.

Whenever a new character or a new banner comes out in Black Beacon, there are characters players can try out for free. Playing these Character Trials rewards players with small amounts of Orelium.

If you happen to have a new character, you can also play their Tutorial to not only get a free Lost Time Key, but 500 Orelium as well.
Later on, once you've progressed through the Main Quest past Chapter 3, you will unlock the ability to create a Trade Camp to generate Orelium passively. Unlike many of the other ways of getting Orelium, this is renewable.

If you need Orelium in a pinch, you can also buy it from the Lost-time Store with Imprints of Lost Time. Imprints of Lost Time are made after you pull on one of the game's retrieval banners. There is also a limit on how much Orelium you can buy from here per month.

The primary use of Orelium is to spend it on raising your Character and Weapon's Breakthrough Levels. Raising a character or weapon's Breakthrough Level increases their level cap, which makes them more powerful.

Without Orelium, you will not be able to keep up with the rising power levels of enemies in the Main Quest, which could halt your progression.

Aside from Breakthorugh Levels, you'll also need Orelium to make your characters' skills more powerful.

Another use for Orelium is to spend it on Merging, which is the crafting of various Develop Items. Certain Develop Items can only be obtained through Merging. So, if you don't have Orelium, you won't be able to get them any other way.
