In Black Beacon, long-range enemy attacks can be parried and reflected back at enemies using Chronosphere, helping to prevent them from overwhelming you. This guide will teach you how to perform a Parry and how to practice it.

How to Parry

Parry by Using Chronosphere

Parry Using Chronosphere

Parrying is one of the ways to have better control over the battlefield by reflecting ranged attacks. This can be performed by casting Chronosphere, which can be unlocked and upgraded after obtaining the Director's Pendant in Story Mode. Parrying ranged enemy attacks is helpful in preventing mobs from overwhelming you.

The Director's Pendant and its associated skills (like Chronosphere) are mostly used in some Story Mode missions and certain game modes such as the missions at Head Librarian's Authority under EX mode.

1

To perform a Parry, wait for an enemy to perform a long-range attack. This is signaled by a red glow, indicating they are about to strike.

However, keep in mind that only certain enemies attack from a distance.
2

If an enemy is about to perform a ranged attack, cast Chronosphere by pressing its icon, which is located beside the first character skill and the Dodge button. Make sure that the Chronosphere is on the projectile's path to reflect it.

To accurately place the Chronosphere on the map, press and hold the Chronosphere's icon. This also slows down time for a shor time, allowing you to cast it safely.
3

A Parry Combo occurs when you successfully reflect a ranged attack, causing it to bounce back and damage an enemy.

This also lowers the cooldown of Chronosphere.

How to Practice Parrying Attacks

Practice Parrying Through Black Beacon's EX Missions

Parry Missions

Parrying enemy attacks can be challenging at first, but the game offers a way for you to practice this game mechanic through the game's EX Missions.

1
Black Beacon Start Battle

Press "Select Battle" and then choose "EX," which is located at the bottom right of the screen.
2
Head Librarian

From there, select "Head Librarian's Authority" and select II Parry. This offers you challenge quests about performing Parry.
3
Parry

The specific missions requiring you to parry enemy attacks are Parry II and Parry III. To unlock Parry II, you must first complete the first challenge quest. Likewise, the third unlocks after clearing the second.

Why Parrying Enemy Attacks is Important

Parrying Attacks Prevents Enemy Mobs from Overwhelming You

Parrying enemy attacks prevents enemies from overpowering you, especially when you are fighting multiple mobs. The later stages in Story Mode and other game modes are challenging, and parrying helps you stay alive.

Though the reflected damage is not that high, this allows you to avoid ranged attacks and focus on fighting melee enemies. A successful Parry also reduces Chronosphere's cooldown, allowing you to cast it more often.

Are There Other Ways to Parry Attacks?

Interrupt Enemy Attack Using Heavy Strike and Skills

While Parry reflects projectiles, there is a more accessible game mechanic that features interrupting enemy attacks. The particular attack is called a Killing Move, which is indicated by a yellow flash. A Killing Move can cause significant damage, but it can be interrupted by casting a Skill or performing a Heavy Strike at the last moment.

Skills can be performed as long as you have Vigor, which is replenished by landing regular attacks on enemies. Any character's skill can interrupt an enemy's Killing Move. Meanwhile, a character can perform a Heavy Strike by pressing and holding the Attack button.

By interrupting an enemy's attack, you avoid getting hit by their powerful Killing Move while also opening them up to follow-up attacks from your character. However, it is important to time your Skill uses or Heavy Strikes carefully, executing them just before the enemy delivers their Killing Move.
