Black Beacon has a bunch of terms that can make new players feel lost. Check out our Glossary to find out the terms you need to know, as well as a list of all important terms in-game!

| Breakthrough | Breakthrough Levels increase a character or weapon's level cap. All characters/weapons can't just level up to the maximum level cap of 90 immediately; a player will need to have them hit level 20 first, then raise their Breakthrough Level to 1 so their level cap will rise to 40. Breakthrough Level 2 raises the level cap to 60, Breakthrough Level 3 raises it to 70, Breakthrough Level 4 raises it to 80, and Breakthrough Level 5 raises it to 90. | Character | A playable character that the player can get either by playing the story or pulling from Black Beacon's Retrieval Pools (gacha banners). Each character has a special set of combat actions, which include Basic and Heavy Attacks and Skills. |
| Clarity | The unit for energy in Black Beacon. Clarity is consumed whenever a Main Quest or Resource mission is played. Clarity can also be converted into Keys of Karma, which are used to open Chests of Fate in Tome of Fate mode. Clarity replenishes itself over time, though players can also get Clarity by using Spherical Fruits. |
| Class | Class is the game's way of classifying the kind of roles a Character could have during battle. For example, the Thunder character Xin is classified as a DPS because of her high-output damage. Players are recommended to use Class labels as guidelines rather than strict rules, as many characters can be effective in multiple roles depending on team composition and playstyle. |
| Combo Burst | Whenever a character deals damage to an enemy, their Combo Burst meter on the top right-hand corner of the screen is filled up. When it's full, Combo Burst mode can be activated, allowing characters to use their skills without having to charge Vigor. | Dodge | One of a character's potential combat actions. When the Dodge button is tapped, a character can be sent hurtling toward whichever direction the player chooses. Dodging is not only a way to avoid damage in battle but is also a way to close the distance between your character and their enemies. |
| Form | A Form is a duplicate of a character that you already have in your possession, and can be obtained either by pulling from a Retrieval Pool or buying a Form from the Store. | Heavy Strike | Done by holding down the Attack button during battle. A character's Heavy Strike not only deals more damage than a regular attack, but it also disrupts an enemy's Killing Move. Related: Combat System Explained |
| Key (Retrieval) | Keys in Black Beacon come in two forms - Time-Seeking Keys and Lost Time Keys. The former is used to pull from retrieval pools featuring limited 5-star characters, while the latter is used to pull from retrieval pools featuring non-limited 5-star characters (such as the Mortal Wanderings and Divine Forge banners). Both Keys can be bought with Rune Shards. |
| Level | There are a few types of Levels in Black Beacon. Character Level, Weapon Level, Enemy Level, and Seer Level. Character Level is raised with EXP and divided by Breakthrough Levels that, when the requirements are fulfilled, allow a character to level up further until they reach the max level cap at 90. Weapon Level is also raised with EXP and works roughly the same Enemy Level is divided by Normal, Elite, and Boss, indicating how powerful they are, and how difficult it is to fight them in battle. | Main Story | The Main Story is the first game mode you will play in Black Beacon. This is also where you will be getting your first Rune Shards, upgrade materials, and Lost Time Keys. |

| Potential | Specific buffs applied to your characters' Skills when you upgrade them with Forms. Related: How to Raise Your Character's Potential |
| Retrieval | Retrieval and Retrieval Pool are what Black Beacon call "gacha" and "gacha banner" respectively. Retrieval Pools are where players pull for Characters and Weapons, using either Time-Seeking Keys or Lost Time Keys. Keys can be obtained through various ways, though they are usually bought with Rune Shards. |
| Rune Shards | Rune Shards are an in-game currency in Black Beacon. These Shards can be earned in various ways and are used, primarily, to buy Keys for Retrieval. Related: All Ways to Get Rune Shards and How to Use |
| Rune Stones | Rune Stones are an in-game currency that is bought at the Store with real-world money. These stones can then be used to buy either special items in the Shop (such as costumes) or converted into Rune Shards, which can then be used to buy Keys. |

| Seer Level Rewards | Every time a player's Seer Level rises, they are entitled to a set of rewards such as Rune Stones, various upgrade materials, and Orelium. |
| Sign-in | The Daily Sign-in Bonus gives rewards to players who log in daily. These include Rune Shards, Upgrade Materials, and Orelium. Sign in consistently daily to get most, if not all the rewards. |
| Skill | Every Character has a set of potential combat actions that include Skills - First Skills, Second Skills, Ultimate Skills, Passive Skills, and Combo Skills. These skills have their own effects and deal their own kind of damage that's different from the damage dealt by another skill. Certain skills (like the First and Second Skill) also charge each other's Vigor, which allows their use on the battlefield (for example, using the First Skill charges the Vigor of the Second Skill). |
| Switch Character | To switch to another character during battle, tap their icon on the left-hand side of the screen during battle. Switching characters near enemies triggers an Entrance Attack that deals more damage than a basic attack. |
| Team | Before any battle in Black Beacon, players are required to form Teams of up to three characters. Members of these Teams can be put together to take advantage of their synergy and deal more damage than by just themselves. |

| Babel Tower (Game Mode) | The Babel Tower is base building/character mission dispatch game mode. The mode has five features, the main ones being the Field Station, Trade Station, and the Babel Tower itself. The Field Station is where you dispatch your characters to do missions that take real-world time to complete, while the Trade Station is a renewable source of Orelium. | Basic Attack | One of a character's potential combat actions. Deals lower damage compared to other combat actions, but it is useful in charging up the Vigor of a character's First Skill. Related: Combat System Explained |
| Boss | Powerful enemies encountered in both the Main Story and the Echoes of the Past EX stages. Like ordinary enemies, they also have Elemental Weaknesses and a set of Skills. Players will have an easier time fighting them if they keep this information in mind. |

| Elemental Weakness | Elemental Weakness is a trait of every enemy in Black Beacon which makes them take additional damage from attacks made by characters of certain Elements. The first boss in Black Beacon, the Nameless Tyrant is weak to the Light Element, which means it'll take more damage from characters like Zero and Shamash. |
| Enemy | Regular enemies in Black Beacon are divided into two classes: Regular and Elite, with Elites being stronger. Both are further subdivided by Monster Traits which dictate how they act during battle. For example, the Form of New Life enemy has the Minion and Self-destruction traits, reflecting its small size and ability to self-destruct. | Tome of Fate | Tome of Fate mode is a roguelike campaign that puts players through different scenarios while also pitting them against powerful foes. Players who play this mode are rewarded with Seals of Fate and Ancient Marks. Ancient Marks are used to give stat bonuses and skill bonuses to a player's Characters, making them stronger in battle. |
| Tutorial | Each Character has a Tutorial mode that can be accessed either through the Character Menu or through the "EX" tab in the Start Battle menu. Completing a Character Tutorial for the first time rewards a player with a Lost Time Key. |
