You can unlock this quest after giving the tools from Clan Tordarroch forge to Yoana during the quest Master Armorers.
You need to pick up the notice Griffin in the Highlands on the notice board of Crow's Perch to start the quest.
You cannot miss or fail this quest.

It is possible to kill the Archgriffin before you start the contract or giving the tools of Clan Tordarroch to Yoana.
