Finding the Key

The key is kept by the prison warden. You will have to kill him and loot it from his corpse. From the jail cells, head up the stairs and exit into the courtyard.

If you did not do the side quest Now or Never and asked helped from Zoltan, the guards will be drunk, making it possible to sneak into the warden's chambers. Otherwise, you will need to fight all the guards. The warden is located in his chambers up the stone stairs.

Lever Location

After swimming and entering the ruins, turn left towards a room with three drowners. The lever will be located near the exit at the opposite side of the room.

Sewer Key Location

The sewer key for the locked door in the sewers can be located on a table towards the right corner of the room immediately after entering the prison.

Questing Tips

Asking for Zoltan's Help

If you have finished the Secondary Quest: Now or Never and helped the mages escape, Zoltan will not be able to help you.

If the mages are still being persecuted in Novigrad, Zoltan will help you get the soldiers drunk in the prison. Doing this will reduce the number of active enemies that attack you when you start rampaging in the prison.

Objective 9 Tips

You can leave the prison by climbing up the stairs towards the prison walls and jumping through the cracked opening. You can also leave through the sewers by using the sewer key found when you first enter the prison.

Combat Strategies

Grave Hag

• Coat your Silver Sword in Necrophage Oil to deal bonus damage to them.
• A perfectly timed counterattack can sever its tongue when it does the tongue attack. When it loses its tongue, it can no longer poison you.

Drowners

• Coat your Silver Sword in Necrophage Oil to deal bonus damage to them.
• Cast the Igni Sign to make them burn, giving you an opening to attack.

Ghouls

• Coat your SIlver Sword in Necrophage Oil to deal bonus damage to them.
• Cast the Aard Sign to make some of them fall down and reduce the number of enemies that attack you simultaneously.

Rotfiends

• Coat your SIlver Sword in Necrophage Oil to deal bonus damage to them.
• Cast the Igni Sign when one of them pops to ignite the gas and kill the multiple enemies in a tight space.

Redanian Soldiers / Witch Hunters

• Coat your Steel Sword in Hanged Man's Venom to deal bonus damage to them.
• Deal with the enemies who are using a crossbow first, and the enemies with shields last. The faster you get rid of the enemies with crossbows the easier it is to take control of this fight.
• We recommend constantly dodging in this fight because it is easy to get swarmed by the number of enemies attacking while getting shot by crossbows.
