Thunder Rumbles Through the Mist Quest Location
Enter the Cavern in Serenity Island
Thunder Rumbles Through the Mist is located at Serenity Island, in the region of Heartcraft Kingdom. Enter the Cavern on the upper layer of Steamville to initiate the quest, after speaking with Macy at the Crystal Salt Factory.

Go to the Cavern
| How to Go to the Cavern | |
|---|---|
| 1 |  Make your way to the upper layer by teleporting to the Saltwrap Bathhouse Warp Spire. Then, continue to your left following the arrow signs until you see wooden platforms hanging across the Stonetree. |
| 2 |  Cross the wooden platforms carefully until you reach the other end, where an archway will greet you. |
| 3 |  Walk toward the only Springbloom in the area and use your Springbloom Awakening outfit to activate its mechanism. Hop on the flower to reach the upper floor. |
| 4 |  The Cavern entrance should be on your right, just behind a big Crystal Salt deposit. |
Investigate the Traces of Contamination
| How to Investigate the Traces of Contamination | |
|---|---|
| 1 | Once inside the Cavern, head straight through the opening straight ahead, and turn right. jump across the chasm and land safely on the other side. There will be Esselings lying in wait, so do your best to Purify them all! |
| 2 | Continue upward and Purify all of the Esselings waiting there, especially the Jelly Pouch holding a Springbloom bud. Once purified, it will drop the bud and summon a Springbloom. |
| 3 | Ride the Springbloom upward and proceed forward following the Bling trail until you come across another group of Esselings. Purify them all, and follow the bling trail to your right. |
| 4 |  Continue moving forward until you reach a new area in the Cavern where more Esselings will be waiting. |
| 5 | After purifying all of the Esselings, hop on the next Springbloom and float downard onto the stone bridge. Continue to your left and head straight into the next area to trigger a cutscene. |
Follow the Puppy Piecey Into the Cavern
After meeting with the Puppy Piecey, continue deeper into the Cavern until you reach another open area where the Competitive Belt Esseling is located. Ignore this enemy, and instead walk toward the platform on your right.
Continue forward until you see a bouncy leafpad to your left. Hop on it and follow the Bling trail until you reach the door leading straight to the Misty Peak.
Find the Path Forward
Walk forward upon exiting the Cavern and approach the Puppy Piecey on top of a rocky platform, adjacent to the Cavern exit. Don't forget to unlock the Misty Peak Warp Spire in the area before doing so!
Approaching the Puppy Piecey will trigger a cutscene where Nikki is transported beyond the Mist, and into the skies where a formidable foe awaits.
Purify the Contamination Source
Follow the Puppy Piecey through the sky by using your Gliding Ability Outfit until you reach the upper area with floating islets to initiate the boss battle.
Be prepared to use your Floating and Gliding Ability Outfits at all times during this encounter, as you will have to dodge multiple attacks and deal Plunge damage while dropping from mid-air.
Purify All Corrupted Puppy Pieceys
Purify all three corrupted Puppy Pieceys floating in the air. Each is purified within 3 hits, briefly vanishing on each successful hit.
They occasionally use AoE attacks, and one may block Purification Orbs with an umbrella, so dodge carefully and wait for openings. Once defeated, the Thing in the Mist will become vulnerable to attacks.
Dodge The Flying Orbs
During this phase, the Thing in the Mist launches around six waves of slow-moving purple orbs at Nikki. Dodge them easily by hopping between islets. After the sixth wave, it becomes exhausted, leaving it vulnerable.
Plunge Attack When White Outline Appears
Use your Gliding ability to fly above the Thing in the Mist, and when a white outline appears around him, perform a Plunge Attack to strike its weak spot and trigger the next phase.
Repeat this after each time the boss becomes exhausted to deal damage. Be sure to wait for the white outline before committing to the Plunge Attack, as striking too early may cause you to miss and lose a heart.
Avoid Whirlwind, Slash, and Orb Attacks
When the Thing in the Mist is down to its last two hit points, it unleashes a final sequence of attacks. It begins with a Whirlwind attack, sending out three whirlwinds that spread farther apart as they approach Nikki.
This is followed by a spiraling onslaught of slash attacks that gradually close in on her position. Finally, the boss launches four waves of orbs, released two at a time.
Successfully avoid all of the attacks by hopping along the floating islets and slipping through the AoE's dead zones. The thing in the Mist will be exhausted once more after the last Orb attack, leaving an opening for another Plunge Attack.
Glide Away From Barrage Attacks
Nikki remains in Gliding mode throughout this final phase as the Thing in the Mist unleashes a series of airborne attacks. To avoid the initial Orb Barrage and Orb Explosion, create distance by gliding backward, staying outside the orbs’ range.
Once the boss transitions to the Whirlwind and Spiral Slash attacks, glide forward while strafing sideways to close the gap. After the final spiral slash, the Thing in the Mist becomes exhausted, giving Nikki the perfect opening to perform the final Plunge Attack and Purify it once and for all.
Go to Serenity Island
Pick up the essence the Thing in the Mist left behind to receive a Gentle Guidance Sketch and other valuable items.
Afterward, return to Misty Peak through the prompt that appears. The Pieceys all gather to meet Nikki and they read through the Old Guardian's jounal, concluding the quest afterward!
