Ore Veins and Chests Containing Materials

While exploring grottos doesn't offer a reward, they do include chests containing valuable loot such as crafting materials, as well as ore veins that you can mine for ores.

Buy Treasure Maps to Check for Unlooted Grottos

Owning a Treasure Map for a region helps you determine which grottos still have unlooted chests. You can buy treasure maps at a Trading Post in exchange for an Ancient Gold Coin.

Unfortunately, the treasure map doesn't show if a grotto has ore veins. A workaround for this is to check whether an unexplored grotto (indicated by a gray icon on the map) doesn't have treasure chest icons, which means that it contains ore veins.

Explorable Caves that Contain Loot

Grottos are explorable caves that contain either treasure chests or ore veins, from which you can collect valuable loot. While most grottos are guarded by enemies on the outside, you can choose to ignore them and quickly collect the loot inside to avoid combat.
