Hunt Objective

No. Objective
1 Talk to Montblanc to get started with the Shadowseer quest.
2 Gain access to the Penumbra, Umbra, and Abyssal floors of the Pharos Subterra.
3 Activate torches by collecting Black Orbs from fallen enemies.
4 Activate twelve pillars in total. Remember to look for the Phoenix boss and defeat it before proceeding to the lower floors.
5 Look for the four pillars in the four corners of the Penumbra floor. Same goes for the Umbra and Abyssal floors.
6 Unlock the 'Unknown' floor by activating all the torches across three floors.
7 Defeat the Shadowseer, then return to the petitioner for your reward.

The Pharos Ain't Over Yet

After giving you the mission, Montblanc will point you to the Pharos. Make your way to the underbelly of the Pharos, traversing the Penumbra, Umbra, and Abyssal sections, until you reach the Shadowseer, which is in an unknown section of the Pharos, a floor that is labeled--you guessed it--'Unknown'.

Getting to the Shadowseer

Like everything else in this game concerning Optional Bosses, getting to the Shadowseer is not as easy as it seems. You first have to battle one of the optional bosses, the Phoenix.

Before you are able to do that, however, you'll need to get to it by fulfilling conditions being asked by the Pedestals of Night spread throughout the levels. You'll have to feed it Black Orbs that you catch from the enemies:

Afterwards, you'll find areas that open up to you. There is a total of three floors, each with four corners that have Pedestals of Night. You use the Black Orbs to light up torches on these Pedestals in order to 'open' up the other floors.

You'll have to complete these three floors--the Penumbra, Umbra, and the Abyssal floors--before you face the Shadowseer.

You Guys Look Familiar...

When you finally get to the Shadowseer, a battle will start where he will start throwing spells at you. Get him to at least about 1/4 of his HP and he will start summoning rather familiar bosses.

The Pandaemonium is the same boss you fought in the higher towers of the Pharos, only stronger. His weaknesses are the same as before. You only need to equip your best tanks with Aero-infused weapons and have your mages use Aero/ga. Alternate this when Pandaemonium switches palings (invulnerable to weapons/magicks) and you'll be fine.

Next up is Slyt. Of all the bosses, he tends to be the easiest. This Slyt is a toughened up version of the first boss you fought as well; however, he is simpler to deal with than with the Pandaemonium. Aside from having no palings that make him vulnerable, he can also be dealt with if you blast him with a combination of Oil and Firaga.

You're halfway through if you begin to battle Fenrir. The battle is not as simple as the first time; when you thought Fenrir was a pushover initially, he's got a plethora of negative statuses to inflict on you this time. His regular attack can cause anything from Confuse to Disease on your party. However, same as before, you can solve this problem if you have equipments that block these negative effects.

Finally, you get to a more recent opponent--the Phoenix. There's a surprise to this enemy: he can change his elemental weakness at will, leaving you to figure out which elemental weakness he's currently under for a specified period of time. However, there's another technique that you can use. Remember those Eksir berries that the Garuda hated? Turns out, the Phoenix hates them too. Use one or a few on him, and the battle is over. Alternatively, keep your positive buffs up, have your heavy-hitters keep railing on him, and he'll go down quick.

Final Death Throes

This leaves you the Shadowseer to battle. He's not a pushover, although he's not that strong of an enemy as well. Keep up your attacks--Holy-element weapons and magicks are especially helpful--and he'll go down pretty quickly. For more info about Shadowseer, see the link below.
