The Sochen Cave Palace is a repository of secrets, and one of these is one your party discovers, given you're the right level for it. It also helps if you have the right weapons and skills too.

The Hell Wyrm is another one of FFXII's baddies that you need prior warning about. He doesn't kid around; he's got a whopping 8M HP. If that doesn't faze you, try comparing that with a single party-member's paltry 9K HP (if you're wearing a Bubble belt). This is the least of your problems, however, as you need to look out for his best attacks. Even one of its 'standard' attacks, Rake, will deal around 2K damage, easily dealing heavy damage to your party and finishing off your best characters, if you're not careful.

Retracing Your Steps

1 Walk to the Sochen Cave Palace. Move on a path using the Eastern side of the area.
2 When you reach the circular area in the Destiny's March section, look for the Door of Hours. Open only the doors that have this label.

Hunting down the Hell Wyrm requires you to return to Sochen Cave Palace. You'll remember the paths as the ones you took when going to the Old Quarter of the Archades Empire. However, you're here for a different reason. You need to return to the circular area of Destiny's March, where you have to track down doors with the label 'Door of Hours.'

Once you've tracked down the 'Door of Hours', the Sochen Cave Palace won't give up its best-kept secret just yet; there are certain conditions to fulfill to get the Ascetic's Door to open up and reveal its 'treasure.'

Opening the Ascetic's Door

3 To have the Ascetic's Door leading to the Hell Wyrm appear, remember to move in a clockwise motion and open only the doors that are marked 'Door of Hours'.
4 When you've done it right, you'll be led to a path that's unmarked on the map. The path to the Ascetic's Door will appear. This is the lair of the Hell Wyrm.

How to Open the Door

The Ascetic's Door operates on a mechanism that's dependent on how you traverse the 'Door of Hours.' The trick to opening it is to go about opening the 'Doors of Hours' in a clockwise fashion, or move about in a direction similar to a clock's minute hand:

(Note: Take care to open only the doors marked 'Door of Hours'. Opening any other door will result in the Ascetic's Door remaining closed.)

Have you noticed that the circular area in Destiny's March looks like a clock? Anyway, once you've moved in the said fashion, the Ascetic's Door will open up to you. Be careful what you wish for, though, because the battle is only beginning.

Enter the Hell Wyrm's Lair

5 Put up your buffs, equip your best gear, and do what you think needs ot be done, because you are in for a very tough--and long--battle.

Once you move through the path and enter the Hall of the Ascetic, the saying 'let sleeping dogs lie' will take on a new meaning. In this case, you should have 'let sleeping dragons lie'--a saying that's also famous in the Harry Potter universe, but one that best mirrors the difficulties of awakening the Hell Wyrm. Impressing Montblanc

6 Defeating the Hell Wyrm adds a sprite to your den. Remember to return to Montblanc for a reward.

Return to Montblanc once you're done. Aside from a flashy new sprite in your Sky Pirate's Den, you'll also be getting an impressive 50K gil reward for impressing Montblanc with your defeat of the 'legendary' Hell Wyrm.
