This page contains information about the boss Antlion in Final Fantasy XII (FFXII, FF12). Read on to know more about the boss fight including its movesets and optimal strategies to beat it.
List of Contents
The Antlion is an Elite Rank V mark that is found in the Lhusu Mines. It can be fought in the Trial Mode along with Killer Mantises, which it uses its Cannibalize skill on to replenish its life. It's not that hard to kill, though, with the right kind of weapons. The Dragon Shield can be rarely stolen from it.
The Antlion comes into battle with Killer Mantises in tow. It could be difficult because it also comes into battle with significant buffs; however, these buffs do run out, and the Antlion doesn't re-cast them. It also Cannibalizes these Killer Mantises, upon which its level becomes boosted a little later in the battle, aside from its health becoming replenished.
It is also weak to Aero-infused weapons and spells, although the earlier part of the battle looks more like a crowd-control combat rather than anything else.

As the Antlion is weak to Aero-infused weapons, the player should equip his or her party with tanks wielding Aero-infused swords, spears, or ranged weapons. Aero/ga magicks are really effective against the Antlion too. As its attacks cause the Disable status, consider changing into Black Belts for the duration of the battle.
One could lure Killer Mantises one by one away from the Antlion to make the battle easier, or use Warp mote/Warp magick to thin their numbers. While the Antlion is immune to such Magick, the Mantises are not. Once you've thinned the herd, finish the Antlion off by throwing your heaviest-hitting characters on it wielding Aero-infused weapons.
