Secret of Mana shares the same theme and story elements as Visions of Mana. Learn if you should play Secret of Mana first and about the new feature in Visions of Mana here!
List of Contents
You may choose to play Secret of Mana first to familiarize yourself with the world and lore of the Mana series. However, it is not necessary, as each game in the mainline series features its own standalone story.
Mainline Game | Original Release Date |
---|---|
Secret of Mana | August 6, 1993 |
Trials of Mana | September 30, 1995 |
Dawn of Mana | December 21, 2006 |
Visions of Mana | Coming August 29, 2024 |
Starting with any game within the mainline Mana series is a viable option depending on your preference. Earlier titles such as Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana have received 3D enhanced versions and are available on consoles, PC, and mobile devices.
Additionally, you may also begin with the remade version of Legend of Mana, the first entry in the series’ spin-offs, as a first introduction to the series.
Story elements like the Mana Tree and Elementals are staples across the Mana series, often serving as central themes in the games.
While veterans of the series will recognize and be familiar with the lore surrounding these elements, newcomers can still easily understand and appreciate their significance within each game's unique narrative.
All games in the Mana series are known for their fast-paced real-time combat and strong emphasis on exploration. While earlier titles typically followed a more linear exploration approach, recent games have embraced an open-world system, offering players greater freedom and opportunities for adventure.
Visions of Mana follows the story of Val and his childhood friend Hinna, who becomes appointed as the Alm of Fire, as they embark on a pilgrimage to the Tree of Mana and meet new companions along the way.
Its story isn’t directly connected to Secret of Mana or any of the mainline games, but it features a similar world and story elements that align with the themes of the Mana series.
Elemental Vessels are a new feature introduced in Visions of Mana, incorporating the Elementals from both previous and current games in the series. According to the Elemental Vessels Introduction Video, there are a total of eight Elemental Vessels, with the video showcasing the Earth, Light, and Darkness Elemental Vessels.
These Elemental Vessels can aid in your open-world exploration and can be equipped to change the class of the five playable characters, providing a unique combat experience suitable for any given situation.
