Switch Characters During Combat

You can switch characters in combat by pressing the up or down buttons on your controller. This allows you to control any playable character in the party, enabling seamless and fluid combat.

Characters Indicated at the Left Side

Character bars are placed at the bottom left side of the screen, allowing you to see which character you are currently in control of, and who you can control next.

The character you are currently controlling will have their bar at the very bottom of the list. Pressing the up button on your controller will switch to the character above it, while pressing the down button will switch to the character at the top of the list.

Can You Switch Characters While Exploring?

Similar to combat, you can choose any playable character to explore the world with and switch between them at any time.

Unable to Switch Characters in Specific Areas

Although they are still indicated in the character bar, you cannot switch characters in specific areas like towns, where your companions may be involved in major story events. In these situations, you will control Val, but you can still converse with your party members around the map as temporary NPCs.
