Visions of Mana is a semi-open world game that features different areas, each with its own defined boundaries, which Square Enix defines as an "expansive semi-open field".
There are multiple different areas in the game, with each location rife with its own share of enemies, treasures, landscapes, and secrets.
Open World has a singular, expansive map that players can explore. Players are free to traverse without loading screens as the map continuously generates itself.
Semi-Open world, on the other hand, consists of multiple maps with boundaries. Players encounter load times whenever they enter a map, as the game has to generate the new area.
You can use mounts such as Pikuls to quickly go roam around the open fields. These dog-like creatures are extremely agile and can get you to places a lot quicker than walking on foot.
You can unlock more mounts that will allow you to travel by sea and air as you progress through the story.
You can also get around through the use of Fast travel. This feature is accessed by opening the map screen, and is available both in and out of towns. Players can fast travel to a certain location at any time, given that they've unlocked the waypoint to that area.
