You can inflict damage on Bowser Jr. when you hit him from above or use power-ups, like the Fire Flower or the Elephant Fruit. You can also prepare and save a power-up beforehand from a different course, so you can be at your 100% when you fight him!
Equip a Badge that can give you movement bonus, like the Floating High Jump, Boosting Jump Spin, or Grappling Vine to make dodging and attacking Bowser Jr. easier. You can consider picking a different one depending on the terrain and tricks the level has!
There's a high risk of getting hit first if you go head to head against Bowser Jr., so be patient and wait for the small time window after his attack before trying to attack him.

Bowser Jr. will start the boss fight with a spinning charge attack towards you. You can wait for him to finish charging then jump on top of him to deal damage.
If you're in the Elephant form, you can use your trunk to throw him off in the opposite direction!
Bowser Jr. will become smaller once you hit him for the first time in the boss fight. Jump and pound the ground while Bowser Jr. is small to hinder his movement and attack. Hit Bowser Jr. once he stops moving and shows his face!
Bowser Jr. will become a giant but his movement will be slower after hitting him for the second time. Dodge Bowser Jr.'s attack after transforming, either by running away or Wall Jumping, and wait for him to finish attacking before hitting him. Repeat this three times to beat him!

The floors on this boss fight move up and down. Take advantage of that to have a good position where you can dodge and hit Bowser Jr. easily!
The second phase starts when you hit Bowser Jr. for the second time, transforming the floors into slippery, icy floors. Move carefully as you might run into Bowser Jr. while his attacking!
You can wait for Bowser Jr. to stop attacking to hit him, same as you did in the first phase!
Getting into the third phase will transform the floors into a slimy structure that Bowser Jr. can use to dive and hide himself. You can catch and hit him once he pops his head, but be careful, as he will also attack once he goes up!

The boss fight against Bowser Jr. in this level will be on water. Bowser Jr. will start chasing you at the start with his spinning spiked shell move so swim in circular motion to dodge him.
You will get a chance to hit Bowser Jr. after he finishes attacking and dropping on the floor. The second phase will start after hitting him once!
The water level will drop in the second phase and bubbles will start appearing around the room. You can swim using those bubbles, allowing you to maneuver around and evade Bowser Jr.!
Wait for Bowser Jr. to stop attacking and hit him to start the final phase.
The water level will be inverted in the third phase and also spawn spikes below. Jump immediately and swim through the water to avoid the spikes.
Use the same strategy in the first phase and hit Bowser Jr. in the head to defeat him!

Bowser Jr. will start attacking using his spin attack, followed by a jump attack in this boss fight. You will know that he will jump soon once you see him spinning on the ground with Spark Visual Effects. He will be momentarily open for an attack after, so be sure to do so!
The Spark Effects will be useful once the stage only shows the silhouettes (or shadows) of you, the platforms, and Bowser Jr., as you will be able to see him clearly, even if it is dark!
Bowser will summon two copies of himself that will use the same attacks as him. You should be able to see them clearly when the stage does not show the silhouettes!
If the stage gets shadowy again, you can identify the real Bowser Jr. by looking for the Bowser Jr. with a Purple Mouth.
