Type: Bruiser Fighting Style: Horizontal Difficulty: Recommended Cost: 950 Gleamium (Battle Pass) Default Tags: Heroic, Animated, Human |
Strengths | Weaknesses |
---|---|
✔︎ Plenty of moves that can knock enemies back
✔︎ Good ring out potential ✔︎ Multiple passives work well with allies |
✖︎ No reliable projectile attacks
✖︎ Focus bar can get tricky at first |
Command | Move | Description | How to Use |
---|---|---|---|
Neutral (Neutral + Attack) |
Face My Blade |
Effect: Charge Jack charges a forward stab. If fully charged, an Aku Beetle Drone will leap toward Jack. Jack will dodge the beetle and slice it in half with a powerful sword slash. |
Charging this attack deals damage and knocks back enemies. When not charged, this can be good for poking damage or to zone enemies due to its range. |
Side (Side (Hold) + Attack) |
Samurai Spin Kick |
A running spin kick that knocks enemies forward. | Can be used to poke enemies or start fights but also has ringout potential due to the knockback. |
Side (Side + Attack) |
Martial Arts Master |
Jack's combo begins with a kick, followed by multiple sword slashes. | This is Jack's basic combo that ends in a knockback or can be cancelled early to chain with other moves. |
Up (Up + Attack) |
Rising Tiger |
Effect: Charge Jack charges a jumping multi slash. |
This is a 2-hit combo that ends with a knockback, perfect for dealing damage while displacing enemies that get too close. |
Down (Down + Attack) |
Precision Strike |
Effect: Charge Jack charges then stabs his sword down into the ground. |
This is great for performing a quick knockback to stop an enemy from charging an attack or for edgeguarding. |
Neutral (Neutral + Special) |
Blade of Vengeance |
Effect: Projectile While armored, Jack readies his sword then thrusts its hilt forward. If his armor is broken during the attack but he is not knocked back, he initiates a counter-attack. During this attack, Jack targets the enemy that broke his armor and launches a sword slash projectile towards them. If Jack has an ally nearby they will also receive armor, which, if broken, will initiate Jack's counter-attack. With full focus, the slash projectile becomes a heavy projectile and Jack will also grant armor to his ally regardless of their distance from him. |
This is best used as a defensive move since the projectile can knock back enemies that are too aggressive. |
Side (Side + Special) |
Lightning Strike |
Jack readies a dashing sword strike, choosing the direction of attack. When the strike begins he teleports to his destination, hitting any enemies in-between him and his starting position. With full focus, Jack will dash back and forth during the attack. | This move can be used either to approach enemies and start a combo or to get to safety. |
Up (Up + Special) |
Storm of Blows |
Effect: Charge Jack charges then jumps into the air and kicks enemies. With full focus, Jack will be armored during the attack. Jack will perform the focus version of his special air down if he performs it immediately after the focus version of this attack. |
This is a great starting point for aerial combos as you can easily chain other attacks after this move. |
Down (Down + Special) |
Aku's Bane |
Effect: Charge Jack charges rapid slashed with his sword. The longer the charge, the more slashes Jack will do. With full focus, Jack will do the full amount of slashes without charging. |
This can be used to deal damage and ringout enemies with the knock back. Even if this isn't fully charged, there will still be a knock back. |
Command | Move | Description | How to Use |
---|---|---|---|
Neutral (Neutral + Attack) |
Whirling Sword |
Jack spins multiple times with his sword close to his body. | Use this when landing from an aerial attack or a jump to deal damage as you fall. |
Side (Side + Attack) |
Flying Slash |
Effect: Charge Jack charges a forward slash. |
You can use this during an aerial combo as the knockback lets you try for a ringout on an enemy. |
Up (Up + Attack) |
Jump Good |
Jack swings his sword overhead. | Good for extending an enemy's time in the air. Can also be used to ring enemies out on the top of the screen. |
Down (Down + Attack) |
Downward Slash |
Jack slashes his sword downward. His sword has a sweetspot if it hits an enemy at the end of it's slash. | Best used when you can hit the sweetspot of this attack as you can knock enemies to the ground or ring them out when outside the platform. |
Neutral (Neutral + Special) |
Lightning Reflexes |
Effect: Grab, Breaks Armor Jack grabs then throws his opponent, breaking armor. If Jack grabs an enemy projectile, he will throw it back at his foe, reflecting it. Jack is armored while throwing enemies or projectiles. |
Use this to catch enemies trying to recover to the stage off guard as the knock back can be difficult to recover from. |
Side (Side + Special) |
Lightning Strike |
Same as ground. | Similar to the groud version, you can use this to move around in the air either to or away from your opponent. |
Up (Up + Special) |
Storm of Blows |
Similar to ground without charge. | Just like the ground version, you can use this along with other attacks for prolonged aerial combos. |
Down (Down + Special) |
Destructive Descent |
Effect: Heavy Projectile Jack darts downward and drags his sword in front of him. With full focus, Jack will create a shockwave heavy projectile in front of him if he lands on the ground during the attack. |
While this can be used to prevent enemies from recovering to the platform, having full Focus lets you attack with a projectile that can deal a lot of damage. |
Passive | Effect |
---|---|
The Mark of a Samurai | If Jack has an ally, some of his attacks will deal a marked debuff. Allies that hit enemies with marked will convert marked into a stack of weaken. |
Mental Focus | Whenever Jack hits enemies with melee attacks or is knocked back, his focus meter fills partially. Once it is full, Jack's special attacks are powered up, but performing them will set his focus back to zero. Focus attacks have increased power and deal weaken. Jack only has a short amount of time where he can perform focus attacks before his focus resets. |
Calm Your Mind | While crouching, Jack will meditate. Meditating consumes some of his focus and turns it into gray health for him and nearby allies. |
Perk and Rating | Description | Explanation |
---|---|---|
★★★★★ Shadow Step |
When Jack's ground neutral special counter is activated, he will do an armored dash toward the enemy that activated the counter. However, he will not fire a projectile. With full focus, Jack will teleport to the enemy. | This perk works well with Samurai Jack's moves as you can easily close the distance between you and your opponent to perform follow up attacks. |
★★★★☆ Mindful Flow |
Instead of Jack's focus being reset when he is knocked out, his focus will increase. | This perk is great for players that like using Jack's empowered moves as you get access to them quicker after getting rung out. |
★★★☆☆ River's Flurry |
Holding special input while performing Jack's down special will add more sword slashes to the attack. The slashes also deal weakened. Extending the attack gradually consumes Jack's focus meter. The attack can no longer be charged. | While this gives more damage to Jack's Down + Special, the charge you need leaves you vulnerable to attacks. Additionally, since this consumes focus you will need to choose between using this attack or the many empowered moves in Jack's kit. |
Perk and Rating | Description | Explanation |
---|---|---|
★★★★★ Press The Advantage |
Your team applies a stack of weakened when knocking back enemies that are above 125 damage. If your teammate also selects this perk, weakened is applied above 110 damage instead. | Samurai Jack has plenty of moves that can knock enemies back and one of his passives already apply stacks of Weaken when playing with an ally making this team perk the best one you can equip. |
★★★★☆ Protective Momentum |
Your team gains a projectile shield after running on the ground in the same direction for at least 0.5 seconds. If your teammate also selects this perk, the projectile shield activates faster. | This perk gives Samurai Jack an extra layer of defense that help keep him durable against projectile attacks. |
Perk and Rating | Description | Explanation |
---|---|---|
★★★★★ Collateral Damage |
You deal 1 additional damage when you knock back enemies into terrain. | Collateral Damage works great with a lot of Samurai Jack's moves as he has many options that can knock enemies into terrain. |
★★★★☆ Last Stand |
While you have at least 100 damage, knocking back enemies applies weakened. | This perk is best equipped when playing with an ally as you can easily stack Weaken against enemies with the help of Jack's passive. |
Perk and Rating | Description | Explanation |
---|---|---|
★★★★★ Pugilist |
Your melee attacks deal increased damage. | Since Samurai Jack's moves are primarily melee attacks, this perk essentially increases your damage output to enemies. |
Side + Attack x2 ► Up + Attack ► Aerial Neutral + Attack |
---|
This is a quick combo that can act as a starting point for more complicated combos. This can also be a simple way of ringing enemies out through the side when they have higher damage. |
Up + Attack ► Aerial Side + Attack ► Side + Special |
---|
This combo starts with a knock up attack that brings your enemy midair to two attacks that knock enemies to the side. Since this combo focuses on taking the fight off the platform, this works well when trying for a ring out. |
Rising Tiger is an offensive move by Samurai Jack that lets him knock enemies back. This is a versatile move as it can be used to begin combos or ring out enemies to the side.
Whirling Sword is Samurai Jack's Aerial Neutral + Attack that also knocks back enemies. Use this whenever you land as this can catch unsuspecting opponents with a knock back and possibly get rung out.
One of Samurai Jack's passives is Mental Focus which is tied to the Focus bar below him. When this bar is filled up, Samurai Jack's special attacks will be empowered and deal weaken to enemies.
This state lasts only for a short time so keep your eye on it and be ready to utilize Jack's empowered state to deal as much damage as you can.
Samurai Jack's kit is designed for melee range combat. While he does have projectile skills, his melee attacks are more reliable and can easily knock opponents off from the platform.
