Best Starter Character

Shaggy Is a Great Starting Character

MultiVersus - Ultra Warrior Shaggy

Shaggy is a Bruiser type fighter and has a Hybrid fighting style which makes him an ideal beginner-friendly starting character. As a Bruiser, he's able to take hits just as hard as he can dish them while having a moveset that's to easy to learn.

Rage Enhances His Attacks

MultiVersus Shaggy rage

Shaggy's Zoinks! move (Neutral + Special) allows him to build up his rage. When fully charged, this allows Shaggy to deal more damage with his attacks, move further, and apply maximum stacks of Weakened.

This beefs up his overall damage output as well as his ring out potential.

Can Also Buff Allies

Fully charging Shaggy's rage drops a Scooby Snack that heals and enrages an ally. This lets allies that are enraged to apply the maximum amount of Weakened stacks on an opponent on their next melee attack.

Projectile Attack Can Heal Allies

MultiVersus - Shaggy projectile

Like, Feed The Hunger is his projectile attack that can damage enemies but also heal allies it passes through. This can have even more utility when Shaggy is raged as it deals more damage and also breaks armor.

Other Great Starter Characters

Apart from Shaggy, there are also many fighters you can choose that are great picks depending on your playstyle.

Garnet is a Bruiser with Utility

MultiVersus - Garnet Profile

Garnet's fast combos and long-range attacks make her a formidable bruiser, but she's also great at supporting teammates thanks to her Neutral Special Stronger Than You.

This move freezes projectiles in place and reflects them when attacked by Garnet or her allies. This unique support move makes her a great choice to use against opposing teams that rely on projectile moves.

Arya is a Sneaky Assassin

MultiVersus - Arya Stark Profile

Arya Stark's passive grants her increased damage whenever she hits an opponent in the back making her a great choice for players looking to deal as much damage as possible with a character.

Arya's Neutral Special Face Stealer can also stun enemies caught in the shockwave giving her some offensive utility in team matches, particulary in 1 vs 1 stages.

Wonder Woman is a Balanced Tank

MultiVersus - Wonder Woman taunt

Wonder Woman is another Bruiser that has both offense and defensive capabilities in her kit. She can close gaps with her Lasso of Truth to fight up close while also being able to defend from projectiles with Warrior Charge and Flying Warrior.

She also plays well with allies as her lasso can be used to pull them to safety while her down special Defense of the Gods cleanses allies of debuffs while giving them a Shield Buff.

Bugs Bunny is a Fast Mage

MultiVersus - Bugs Bunny Profile

Bugs Bunny's Dynamite, Doc? passive lets him spawn a projectile that he and his allies can use, which already separates him from fellow mage Tom and Jerry.

What makes Bugs the better choice though is his Down Special Bunny Burrow which gives him immunity to damage while also allowing him and his allies to teleport across the stage. This makes him great at repositioning his many ranged attacks.
