MultiVersus is a Free-to-Play game that doesn't house a Pay-to-Win element in its game. Read on to learn more about why MultiVersus is not Pay-to-Win and how you can unlock characters in the game.
List of Contents
MultiVersus doesn't necessarily have any Pay-to-Win (P2W) elements since the game gives you some fighters early on, in addition to the characters that are free to use on a weekly basis.
While the characters available to you allow you to play PVP modes, players that want to experience the full roster of available fighters will have to spend a considerable amount of real money on Gleamium to unlock them.
Aside from spending Gleamium, players can use Fighter Currency to unlock characters in the game. You can get Fighter Currency from Missions, playing matches, leveling up characters, and from the Battle Pass.
Completing the tutorial lets you unlock Shaggy for free. Shaggy is a great freebie as his Bruiser type and Hybrid fighting style make for a beginner-friendly starting character.

You literally contradict yourself: "Game has no p2w elements" then "Gelanium [real money] can be used to buy more powerful characters." P2W: get an ingame advantage for real money. You do not have to literally be able to buy wins. In this case you save time not farming. There's plenty of room to expand character locks into literally buying wins by increasing farming costs, and releasing overpowered characters which get nerfed by the time no paying players start unlocking them, repeat.
