Hive Tyrant Enemy Information

Durability Heavily Armored

The Hive Tyrant is the head of the Tyranid swarm. This Terminus threat enemy can only be fought as a boss in Operations, specifically in Operation 02: Decapitation.

Attacks and Abilities

The Hive Tyrant has a special mechanic of reviving when defeated, meaning that you will have to fight it twice.

Phase 1

The Hive Tyrant has plenty of unblockable attacks and always executes its moves in combos. Stay high on guard.

Hive Tyrant Abilities
Lunge Leaps from a distance and slams its sword down at the target location.
Whip Sweep Does a wide-arching sweep with its whip from right to left.(w/ Follow Up)
Sword Slam Slams its sword down on an area in front of it
Tornado Slash Performs a 720-degree spin with decent range.
Talon Slam Immediately slams down its talon, affecting a small area on impact.
Back Swipe Rears its talon and swipes behind. Regularly performs this when you are behind it.

The Hive Tyrant prefers opening with the Whip Sweep, which it then follows through with the Sword Slam, and finishing with the Tornado Slash. All of these attack are unblockable, with the only window to parry being a quick follow up after it does the Whip Sweep.

Phase 2

Once you have taken it down the first time, the Hive Tyrant revives with FULL health. The Hive Tyrant gains some new abilities and enhances its old ones in this state. Make sure to dodge the waves of green energy in this phase.

Hive Tyrant Abilities
Swarm Call Roars and calls in Tyranid reinforcements. Releases synaptic pulses that damage if unavoided.
Venom Wave Fires out waves of bio energy when it slashes with its sword.

How to Beat Hive Tyrant

Use 'Poke' Tactics

The Hive Tyrant is a nimble opponent despite its size. That said, it still makes for a pretty big target with a large hitbox.

Quickly engage it in melee when it does its chain of attacks, then back off and sneak in shots as you retreat.

Hit Him Hard

Space Marine 2 - Hive Tyrant Battle

If you are going to go in guns blazing, then we recommend doing so with high-powered weapons.

While you would think to save grenades for mobs, you can be a bit more generous this time. A well-placed Melta-Bomb will do you good.

Focus on The Tyranid Warriors

When the Hive Tyrant calls in reinforcements, instead of swatting the smaller ones, prioritize taking down the Tyranid Warriors as you can use the Synaptic Shock for executing them to easily clear out the smaller Tyranids.

Time Your Use of Gun Strike

Space Marine 2 - Hive Tyrant Gun Strike

The Hive Tyrant has only a few moves that you can parry. When it does these, however, a successful parry leaves it vulnerable to a Gun Strike. You can also perfect dodge when the indicator appears to use a Gun Strike.
