Parry Timing and Perfect Parry

Parry Timing

This is a guide to parry timing in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Learn the parry timing, perfect parry, and how defence affects parry in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.

What is the Parry Timing?

Parry When an Attack is About to Connect

Any non-unblockable melee attack can be parried so as long as you anticipate when an enemy attack will hit. A blue glow can appear to indicate that an enemy is about to attack. A successful parry is usually accompanied with a spark or a deflection sound. Catch-parries for Minoris enemies lead immediately to executions.

Parries can also be done when you are not being targeted so as long as you are within the enemy's attack range. This means you can parry enemies in defense of another teammate.

Perfect Parry Explained

Perfect Parries occur when you parry an attack at the right moment (within the Perfect Parry window). For Majoris enemies and higher, this is signified by an available gun strike marker that appears on the enemy after the parry.

Perfect parries on Minoris enemies also restore 1 armour segment (as of the Season One free update patch), making surviving hordes with melee weapons much easier.

Improve Perfect Parry Timing with Fencing Weapons

Fencing Weapons

Perfect Parry timings or windows can be improved by switching to a melee weapon with a defence stat of Fencing.

The window provided by the Fencing stat is generous, so it is highly recommended to go with this weapon if you want to make the most of weapon perks tied to a Perfect Parry.

Fencing and Defence Type

Perfect Parry Update Timing for Fencing Defence

As of the Season One free update patch released on Sept. 26, 2024, the Fencing defence type perfect parry window has been reduced from the mentioned 30 frames to 20 frames, with the last remaining 10 frames as a vulnerability window (a moment where you can be punished for missing).

This makes parry spams less useful against enemies, and will now require more disciplined timing for enemy attacks.

Patch Notes and Updates

Parry Timing for Minoris and Majoris or Higher

Types When to Parry

Minoris Leaping Attacks
As soon as the Blue Glow appears (even at the first frame). Guarantees an Execution.

Any Regular Attack
(Minoris or Higher)
Right before the attack hits. Allows Gun Strike on Perfect Parry.

The blue glow indicator serves mostly as an aid for an attack.

For leaping Minoris enemies, you will do the catch animation whenever you parry, giving you invincibility for the duration of the execution. This can be initiated anytime the blue glow indicator starts.

For regular attacks from Majoris enemies or higher, you will have to watch the animation carefully when timing for a Perfect Parry.

How to Parry in Space Marine 2

Parry Melee Attacks

Input Description
C / PS4 - L1 Button / XBOX - Left Bumper
Parry

To Parry, press either the default key C on PC or L1/LB on Playstation and Xbox consoles, respectively. Parry only works on melee attacks with no red glow indicator. This means ranged attacks, such as gunfire, cannot be parried.

Melee attacks with a red glow indicator cannot be parried and must be dodged instead to avoid damage. Getting a Perfect Dodge guarantees a gun strike.

Class Perks Can Buff Parry

In Operations, Class Perks such as Defensive Mastery can instantly incapacitate enemies for an execution or a gun strike. Make sure to pay close attention to these perks since parrying at higher difficulties will make it much easier for you to survive swarms and bosses in missions.
