Carnifex Enemy Information

Characteristics

Faction Tyranids
Threat Level Terminus
Durability Heavily Armored

The Carnifex is a large, terrestrial Terminus threat Tyranid enemy that you get to fight as a boss in the Campaign and is a random boss encounter at higher threat levels in Operations.

Attacks and Abilities

Two-Part Ram
Leap (Pt.1)
Prepares a forward lunge from a position.
Quake (Pt.2)
The Carnifex digs its claws into the ground after the Ram, then violently pulls them out. (AoE)
Two-Part Rear Check
Back Swipe (Pt. 1)
Quickly angles its talons and does a quick swipe behind.
Front Slam (Pt.2)
Rears its talon up from the Back Swipe and turns to face you before immediately slamming it down.

These are the most notable two-part moves that the Carnifex prefers doing. It always does both parts, so do not let your guard down so quickly.

Venom Spine Barrage

Carnifex - Venom Spine Barrage
This is the Carnifex's only ranged attack. It will anchor itself in place and spray a line in front of it with envenomed quills.

How to Beat Carnifex

Use Speed To Your Advantage

The Carnifex might be strong, but it's also slower than you. Use dodges and sprints effectively to constantly reposition yourself.

Punish During 'Venom Spine Barrage'

Unless you got caught in its line of fire, the Carnifex is relatively vulnerable when performing this move. Use the few extra seconds to attack it in melee.

Use High-Powered Weapons

Whether Primary or Secondary, unless you are comfotable and confident in your melee skills, it's often easier to whittle down the Carnifex at medium range with things like a Heavy Bolt Rifle or the charged shots of a Plasma Pistol.

Parry When It Counts

The Carnifex does not have many blue attacks, if at all. Unless it's doing red (unblockable) attacks, keep doing well-timed parries to stagger it and open it up to Gun-Strikes.
