A Problem of Succession Routes Guide

Branches Into Two Main Routes

A Problem of Succession branches into two routes. Choosing Georg or Sophia when the king asks for your opinion on who should succeed the throne will end the side quest more quickly.

Be Careful When Choosing Thomas or Abstaining

Be careful on the route after selecting Thomas as the successor or abstaining from answering the king's question. During the conversation with Cyfreet and Thomas about the actions to take regarding Georg's invasion, choosing "Return to Avalon to assemble more troops" or "This doesn't concern me. I'm leaving." will result in Cumberland's destruction, which also causes the side quest to fail.

A Problem of Succession Rewards

Unlock the Crusader

You'll be able to unlock the Crusader Character Class after conquering Cumberland if the A Problem of Succession side quest is cleared.

Divine Wall Formation Unlockable

If a Crusader becomes emperor, The Divine Wall formation will become available after talking to the soldier in the Battle Formation Training Camp in Avalon.

Georg or Sophia Route

#	Step-by-Step Guide
1	Fast travel to Somon from the world map.
2	In Somon, talk to the sailor and ask him to give you a ride to Douglass.
3	After reaching Douglass, head to the castle and talk to the Official outside the King's throne room. When the king asks if you've met his two sons, choose "I haven't." to unlock Castle Nerak and Hofah on the world map. You can talk to the king again and choose "I have." to proceed with the quest.
4	The king will ask for your opinion in whoever should succeed him. Out of the four options, choose either The stalwart Georg or The wise Sophia.
5	The next day, the castle will be in uproar. The King is dead and Prince Thomas is missing. Go to the narrow path, located northeast of Douglass to find Thomas. After finding him, you will be confronted by Douglass Swordsmen.
6	The Douglass Swordsmen are weak against Spear, Bow, Physical, and Wind attacks
7	After the battle, take Thomas and escape from Douglass. Go in a straight line towards the orange marker to escape without getting lost.
8	Meet up with Sophia and Georg. Ask them to take back the capital while you deal with the fiends at the Great Wall. On the world map, fast travel to the Great Wall. Go down the hole and proceed through the underground tunnel.
9	Fight against the Duneworm in the underground tunnel. It is weak against Sword, Physical, Fire, Water, and Wind attacks. Stun is effective against this enemy. It is recommended to have the greatsword Tech Vertical Strike available.
10	After defeating the Duneworm, fast travel back to Douglass.
11	Report to Georg about your success with the Duneworm, which completes the side quest. You won't be able to unlock the Crusader character class until after defeating Cyfreet and conquering Cumberland. ▶︎ Cumberland Story Walkthrough

Thomas or Abstaining Route

#	Step-by-Step Guide
1	Fast travel to Somon from the world map.
2	In Somon, talk to the sailor and ask him to give you a ride to Douglass.
3	After reaching Douglass, head to the castle and talk to the Official outside the King's throne room. When the king asks if you've met his two sons, choose "I haven't." to unlock Castle Nerak and Hofah on the world map. You can talk to the king again and choose "I have." to proceed with the quest.
4	The king will ask for your opinion in whoever should succeed him. Out of the four options, choose either Thomas or say I couldn't tell you. It's not my duty. A cutscene will ensue after selecting a choice.
5	Exit the castle and turn left. Follow the road on the minimap to reveal a hidden path where Thomas can be found.
6	While talking to Thomas and Cyfreet about the plans to handle Georg's army, choose to Send out an ambassador of peace.
7	Travel to Castle Nerak and talk to Georg. Choose Leave the fiends to me.
8	After talking to Georg, travel to the Central Great Wall and enter the giant hole past the monsters. Navigate through the underground tunnel and follow the quest marker.
9	Once you reach the quet marker, it'll trigger a battle with the Duneworm. Its weaknesses are Sword, Physical, Fire, Water, and Wind. Stun is effective against this enemy. It is recommended to have the greatsword Tech Vertical Strike available. Defeat the Duneworm to progress the quest. Head back to Castle Nerak to report your success to Georg.
10	Sophia joins in on your conversation with Georg. Choose to Infiltrate the Palace and Save Thomas. when given the option.
11	Return to Douglass and approach the castle gate. This will trigger a battle against Spriggan. Defeat the fiend to progress through the quest.
※	Alternatively, you can go to the back of Douglass Castle where you found Thomas to skip the Spriggan fight entirely. You can immediately enter the castle via the vines hanging from the open windows.
12	Get the Dungeon Key on the 2nd floor of the castle.

14	Head to floor B1 of the castle and find Thomas' cage. Open it to rescue him. This will trigger a cutscene and ends the side quest. You won't be able to unlock the Crusader character class until after defeating Cyfreet and conquering Cumberland. ▶︎ Cumberland Story Walkthrough
