Equipped shields have a chance to activate whenever a unit is attacked, helping to reduce the damage taken during that turn. This protective boost can make a big difference in tough battles, allowing units to absorb hits more effectively and stay in the fight longer. When a character uses a two-handed technique—such as wielding Greatswords, Spears, Bows, or Martial Arts—their shield is disabled for that turn, leaving them without its protective benefits. Shields are generally heavier than Bucklers, which can impact a character's speed.

Bucklers have a lower chance of activating compared to regular shields, but when they do, they completely block all incoming damage. This makes them a high-risk, high-reward choice for characters who can benefit from full protection in key moments. Using a two-handed technique—like Greatswords, Spears, Bows, or Martial Arts—disables the character's buckler for that turn, removing its protective benefits. Bucklers offer a lighter, more agile alternative to Shields.
