At the start of a new game in Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven, you will be asked to select a difficulty level. You will have 3 options that will vary in combat difficulty, make sure to choose the one that will suit your playstyle and how you want to play the game.
If you change your mind mid playthrough you can always change your difficulty setting in the menu.
Difficulty Settings | |
---|---|
Casual | If you want a story-focused gameplay with easier battles, select this option. |
Normal | Is balanced between the story and the battle difficulty. Perfect if you want a standard RPG experience. |
Hard (Classic) | If you are looking for a more challenging gameplay then select this difficulty for more challenging combat encounters. |
Open the World Map and use your cursor to select which location you would like to fast travel to.
This is especially handy in towns if you want to move between facilities since it's more efficient than walking from place to place.

Exploiting enemy weakpoints is important in Romancing Saga 2. Not only will this deal greater damage to the enemy's HP, but it will also help in ending combat faster. You also need to hit weak points to increase your Overdrive Gauge and to do combos with your party.
You can keep track of an enemy's discovered weak points by looking at the icons just below the enemy name during combat.
You can raise your level by earning Technique Points in battle. This will increase the levels of your Tech Skills and Spells. Your power will increase making it easier to defeat enemies.
This will also give you more chances to learn more powerful techniques depending on your level, so if your enemies are stronger, increase your level accordingly.
New techniques can occasionally be acquired through a Glimmer by using other weapon skills. Weapons with the chance to be Glimmered will have a lightbulb icon beside its name. The brighter the bulb the higher the chance of it happening.
You are more likely to unlock new Techs when fighting stronger enemies. Once a technique is Glimmered it will be used during that turn and will be available to be used again on subsequent turns.
To gain an advantage in battles in Romancing Saga 2, your party will need to be organized into a well-balanced group based on the class. You will need a Tank that can take attacks, a unit that deals damage, a healer, etc.
Make sure to have all your bases covered. In particular, it is highly recommended that you have a dedicated healer especially in the early game.

Best Party Members and Compositions
Formations are important to gain an advantage in battle and to make the most out of the strengths of your class. If you are having a hard time during a battle, try and review your formation.
Make sure to arrange your party well so that characters with high defense are placed where they can receive the damage instead and that damage dealers can attack quickly as needed.
Formation | Effect |
---|---|
Imperial Cross | This formation has your units in a cross position with one character protected in the center. Attacks will be concentrated at the front so place your tank in that position to shield damage for the party. This unit will be vulnerable to enemy attacks so make sure to keep an eye on their health during battle. |
Free For All -1 | This formation allows one character to be placed in the back row to focus on attacking while being protected. The speed of the characters in the front row will also increase making it easy to use. This formation can be unlocked by making the City Thief Cat the emperor. |
A preemptive strike happens when you attack an enemy on the field without being noticed. When this happens, you deal a small amount of damage to the enemy at the start of the round and they will have a reduced action speed, this makes it easier to create an advantageous situation.
You should also be careful of Surprise Attacks, which happen when an enemy attacks you from behind. You will be unable to retreat from battle in the first 3 turns when this happens.
In Romancing Saga 2, you may need items to handle different situations like recovering HP and BP, and cures for different status ailments. While you can use Magic to do this it is also important to have items that can do this for you as well.
This allows all members to be capable of doing recovery actions and will help conserve your BP in dungeons. Replenish your supplies by purchasing them at the shop.
Item | Effect | Price |
---|---|---|
Quality Balm | Recovers 300 HP for one unit. Can revive an incapacitated ally, and cure poison. | 5,000 |
Puissance Liquor | Recovers 25 BP for one person. | 5,000 |
Spirit Liquor | Recovers 100 BP for one person. | 10,000 |
Be sure to acquire and equip weapons and armor from the Smithy or shops in town. Be mindful of powerful equipment that can drop in dungeons and treasure chests as well, it's recommended that you review your equipment whenever you pick up a new item.

By searching for Mr. S, you can receive benefits when you reach a certain number of discoveries, usually after every 5.

A unique mechanic in the Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven is the use of the LP System. This is a characters total life in the game and depleting this to 0 will lead to their Permanent Death.
Not to be confused with HP which replenishes after every battle. The LP is a set number of lives that varies from character to character, this number reduces everytime they are incapacitated in battle.
