Refers to Ratio of Linemen

Madden NFL 25 - Hat Count

The Hat Count refers to the ratio of offensive linemen to defensive linemen. Depending on the formation of either team, there will be times where one side will have an advantage, resulting in a successful run for the offense or a defensive stop.

How to Use Hat Count

Press L2 on Controller, Ctrl on Keyboard

While you can count the players yourself, the game also provides a visual for the Hat Count. Players can hold down L2 on Controller or Ctrl on the keyboard to see the Hat Count before snapping the ball.

Used to Determine Best Route When Running the Ball

Players can use the Hat Count to determine if the running play currently drawn up works well against the formation of the defense. If the box is green, this means the offense has the advantage and you can run the ball on that side of the play.

If a box is red, this means the defense has the advantage and it would be best if you were to call an audible.

Call Audibles When Necessary

If the Hat Count isn't working to your advantage, call an Audible to make the necessary adjustments to your play. This lets you to modify your play at the last-second, giving you options such as flipping the play to switch the number of players on a side or even setting up a pass.
