Battle System and Mechanics Explained

Dragon Quest Treasures - Battle System Explained

Dragon Quest Treasures features an action-filled battle system that will have you fight alongside ally monsters. Read on to learn the basics of the battle system, as well as how each battle flows and combat mechanics!

Battle System Explained

Control the Main Character

DQ Treasures - controlling Erik

During battles, you will take control of the main characters, Erik and Mia, to lead your party to victory. They can participate in combat in different ways, such as attacking, healing and supporting allies, or fleeing from the fight.

Monsters Will Automatically Fight

In Dragon Quest Treasures, your ally monsters will automatically fight and attack the enemy team. You can leave them on auto-attack mode or send them commands for a swift victory.

Switch between the siblings

DQ Treasures - baton pass

You can only control either Erik or Mia during a battle, and you can freely switch between them when on the base. The levels of the siblings are shared, and you don't have to worry about them having unique strengths and weaknesses.

Battle Flow

Choose 3 Ally Monsters to Form a Party

DQ Treasures - choosing ally monsters

You can bring up to 3 ally monsters with you in your adventures. Other than their stats, you should also consider their exploration abilities or Fortes and choose monsters that are perfect for where you are heading.

Approach Monsters on the Field to Start a Battle

DQ Treasures - starting a battle

Approaching monsters on the field will initiate a battle with them. You can also gain an upper hand at the start of the battle by sneaking on monsters and pressing the Y button for a Surprise Attack. This will take a huge chunk off their health even before the fight begins!

Attack and Support With Your Weapons

DQ Treasures - commanding monsters

From here, you can have Erik or Mia use their Dragon Daggers and catapults to attack the enemies. Other than attacking, the siblings can also buff the rest of the party and provide healing. Although your allies will attack automatically, the outcome will still depend on you and your commands.

Combat Mechanics

Use Catapults and Pellets

DQ Treasures - attacking enemies using Erik

Erik and Mia can attack with their daggers, but the best way to participate in combat is by using their catapults and Pellets. These weapons give you access to Pellets that can hit enemy weaknesses and deal heavy damage. There are even Pellets that can be used to heal and provide buffs to allies!

Try to be proficient in using the catapults, especially in aiming them, as these can be both your main source of damage and team support that will turn the tides of the battle!

Trigger Monster Medley

DQ Treasures - Skill Chain

During battle, when Erik, Mia, and their monsters attack enemies together in the right order, a Monster Medley will trigger, dealing increasing damage the more attacks are chained.

Unleash the Dragon

DQ Treasures - Full Beam

Whenever you deal or take damage, the Dagger Gauge will start accumulating for Erik and Mia. Filling up the gauge allows you to activate special moves called Unleash the Dragon on Erik and Mia or any of your ally monsters during the battle. Their effects depend on which party member used the Dragon Attack, as each race will have their own signature move.
