Aside from just being able to play both Peter and Miles in combat and exploration, swapping between the two is also done to have access to missions and side quests exclusive to a certain Spider-Man.
If you head to a mission starting point using the wrong character, the game will automatically switch to the correct character to start the mission.
To make sure not to miss out on any challenges, rewards, and missions, be sure to switch between Peter and Miles every now and then!
You will unlock the ability to switch characters during the main mission, One Thing at a Time. The FNSM app gets fixed in the mission, allowing you to switch between Peter and Miles.
One Thing at a Time Walkthrough
Players cannot manually switch between Peter and Miles in combat. Switching between Peter and Miles can only be done in the overworld.
There are instances where players will switch from Peter to Miles and vice versa in combat during story missions. However, note that the character switching during these missions is tied to the main story and is not done of one's own accord.
Spider-Man 2 is a purely single-player experience hence two players cannot play one Spider-Man each. In this single-player experience, players can switch between Peter and Miles instead of one or the other for their respective games.
