When to Use 3-4 Formation

Sets Up Defense Against Running Backs

3-4 formation is named for its composition of 3 defense linemen and 4 linebackers. The increase in linebackers applies more pressure and provides a better chance of tackling Running Backs, a.k.a. Halfbacks, who manage to get past the main line of defense.
