The Fens

Emerald Grove is a lush and lively zone defined by fertile land, dense forests, and open plains. It features the warm-toned Autumn Forest, the glowing, enchanted like Azure Forest, the wide and open Drifting Plains, and the densely packed Seedling Woods, where trees and flowers blanket the ground in thick layers of vegetation. The zone also contains The Fens, a rain-soaked marshland biome.

Badlands
Desolate Basin
Golden Steppes

Howling Sands is a harsh, wind-swept zone dominated by heat and dry terrain, but with surprising environmental variety. The Desolate Basin forms the heart of the desert with endless dunes, while the Badlands resemble a scorched savannah with sparse plant life. It also features the Golden Steppes, the termite-like mound structures inhabited by the hostile Scaraki creatures.

Biome Map Details
Boreal Reach
Frostmarch Tundra
The Everfrost

The Whisperfrost Frontiers is a frozen zone shaped by extreme cold and icy landscapes. The Boreal Reach features snowy forests and frozen ground dotted with pine trees, while the Frostmarch Tundra transitions into ice-heavy terrain where plant life becomes increasingly scarce. At the coldest extremes lies The Everfrost, a barren glacier biome covered entirely in ice with no trees or foliage.

Biome Map Details
Charred Woodlands
Cinder Wastes

The Devastated Lands is a scorched and hostile zone marked by fire, ash, and ruin. The Charred Woodlands are volcanic regions where lava flows through blackened terrain and burned forests reduced to nothing. Beyond this lies the Cinder Wastes, a haunting ghost forest biome filled with ash-covered land and the remnants of what once stood there.

Ancient Gateways are special portals that allow players to travel to unique locations. These gateways can be crafted at the Arcanist’s Workbench after unlocking the recipe by collecting a total of 100 Memories.

Once crafted, an Ancient Gateway can be activated using a corresponding Fragment, temporarily transporting you to a separate area filled with exclusive enemies, materials, and sometimes powerful creatures. Because time in these locations is limited, it’s best to explore quickly and gather as many resources as possible before being returned.

Ancient Gateway Game Crashing

Summon Portal

Users have reported the game crashing after entering the portal. Since this game is still in its early access, a lot of bugs and crashes are expected, this will however be fixed once the game launches officially.

Procedurally Generated World

Forgotten Temple Gateway Map Location

Hytale’s world is procedurally generated, so terrain, biomes, and structures are created dynamically. While the overall layout of the world stays mostly consistent between playthroughs, smaller details like trees, enemies, and other features change each time, keeping exploration feeling fresh.

The map only shows your current location and a small surrounding area, fading previously explored regions into darkness, and you can place pins to mark important spots so you can track it via your compass while travelling.
