The best weapon types in Hytale are the Sword and the Bow. Swords are versatile one-handed weapons that allow you to equip an off-hand item, making you prepared for any situation.
The Bow, on the other hand, is very accessible, and is a great way to deal damage from afar with its plentiful ammunition.

Swords are the best weapon type in Hytale because of their versatility. Because swords are one-handed weapons, you can have an off-hand item equipped, such as shields or torches. Being able to do this while you have a weapon ready is a big advantage, especially since you can freely switch off-hand items.
The sword does, however, deal less damage compared to the two-handed weapons, requiring you stay in fights for a longer period of time.

Bows are the best weapons for ranged combat thanks to their accessibility, as players can easily make bows from the start of the game. They are also easy to use, and can deal good damage to faraway enemies. Additionally, the arrows you need for the bow are easy to craft, ensuring you don't easily run out.
Its biggest downside is that you have to charge the bow to deal the full damage and increase its range. This leaves you vulnerable to attack, so make sure you are in a safe place before preparing your bow.

The Daggers have the fastest attack speed among all melee weapons, and give you a lot of mobility from their charge attack, especially when used while jumping.
While it requires players to land more hits against enemies due to its low attack stats, the mobility they get from it can save them from getting defeated by powerful enemies.

The Hand Crossbow is another ranged option which, unlike the bow, can load multiple arrows. This lets you quickly shoot arrows and deal a lot of damage over a short period of time.
It is, however, heavily affected by gravity (dropoff), giving it less range compared to bows. It also has a long reload animation, which leaves you vulnerable to attack.

The Greataxe is a two-handed weapon that deals a lot of damage at the cost of slow attack animations. Although its attacks are slow, its charge attack allows you to quickly close the distance with a lunge, which can be used for both offense and defense. Its attacks can also hit multiple enemies at a time thanks to its wide swings.

The Mace is the slowest melee weapon in the game, but can deal huge amounts of damage, and can even hit multiple enemies because of its large swings.
Additionally, you can change the direction of its attacks, allowing you to adapt to any situation.
However, while powerful, the weapon is not as beginner friendly relative to the weapons listed above.

I immediately can’t trust this. Daggers should be S tier on any list, the charge is too OP right now

Surprisingly, this is incorrect. The melee S tier is actually Daggers. It's good for option (Charge + Jump + Sprint) and while it does eat Stamina a bit, the charge attack does a lot of damage, has decent 'short' range as it launches you forward, and then you jump back automatically. Ranged is the Hand Crossbow. You can sprint while reloading, it stunlocks enemies, and while "short" you just aim upwards. It's intuitive and I've snipe/kited a Cave Rex and killed it in 12 arrows (+charge).
