Collect Raw Hide From Animals

Leather is made from raw hide dropped by animals you defeat. With that in mind, the first step to farming leather is to collect animal hides!

Light Hide can be obtained from small harmless animals, Medium Hide from larger creatures, and Heavy Hide from deadly predators. Small animals can easily be taken down with a Crude Sword, but tougher creatures may need stronger gear to get their hides.

Craft a Tanning Rack

Item Requirements
Tanning RackTanning Rack Light Hide x3
・Any Tree Log x6
・Any Stone x3

Using your Workbench, craft a Tanning Rack next. This requires 3 Light Hide, 6 Any Tree Logs, and 3 Any Stone. The Tanning Rack will process your collected raw hides into leather.

You can craft multiple Tanning Racks to process more than one hides into leather at the same time, or upgrade the bench itself to reduce processing time and increase storage capacity.

Once you have a Tanning Rack, interact with the bench and place your raw hide in the Input box to start processing. The processed leather is based on the type of hide you use.

After a short wait, the leather will appear in the Output box and you now have leather!

How to Use Leather

Craft Better Equipment

Processed leathers are used to craft weapons and armor. Higher-tier equipment requires higher-tier hides. For example, Thorium weapons need Medium Leather and Adamantite weapons need Heavy Leather.

Upgrade Crafting Tables

You can also use leathers to upgrade crafting tables, such as the Workbench, to unlock more recipes. On the other hand, upgrading processing benches like the Tanning Rack and Furnace will increase their item-processing speed.
