The moment you enter your world, we highly recommend heading to the Forgotten Temple first to unlock Memories. Craft at least a Crude Sword so you have something to defend yourself with, and stock up on Berries for healing.
Unlocking Memories early allows you to record copies of creatures in the Heart of Orbis in exchange of rewards. Make sure to visit the Forgotten Temple from time to time whenever you encounter new creatures!

During your first few days in your new world, it’s best to focus on building your shelter. Save the fighting until you’re more settled in.
Craft the essential tools, namely the Crude Hatchet and Crude Pickaxe, to farm wood and stone, respectively. Design your shelter however you like, just don’t forget to craft a Workbench to expand your crafting abilities, as well as a Bed to set your respawn point when you die.

Speaking of dying, you will lose half of the consumables and resources in your inventory when you die in Hytale, as well as lose 10% durability of your tools, weapons, and armor. Players, however, can control resource and durability losses upon death through the World Settings in the main menu.
You will then respawn at the bed you set as your respawn point. If you didn’t set one, you will instead appear at the spawn point from when you first entered the world.

Considering that Hytale is still in Early Access, expect to have some performance issues. Take a look at the game’s settings and tweak the video options until performance is satisfactory.
For quality-of-life improvements, we recommend enabling Show Entity Health Bars to monitor enemies’ health, and toggling the Camera Preference setting if you want to switch to a third-person view.

You can craft multiple crafting tables at your Workbench, each with its own specialty. Craft all the crafting tables and place them near Storage Chests so they can pull materials from them whenever you craft.
You can then upgrade your crafting tables up to Tier 5 to unlock new recipes. We don’t necessarily recommend upgrading tables that only process materials, such as the Furnace and Tanning Rack, since you’ll only be improving their processing speed. It’s fine to keep them at Tier 1 for a while.

Part of Hytale’s gameplay loop is mining to improve your gear and craft rarer items, and you’ll often find yourself spelunking in caves in search of these resources. We recommend preparing by crafting fresh Pickaxes and, most importantly, stocking up on Crude Torches, since caves are dark.
Bring as many Crude Torches as you can, as they’re cheap to craft. Once you’re in the caves, place torches on the right-hand wall. This helps you always know how to get out: torches on the right mean you’re going deeper, and torches on the left mean you’re on your way out.

In the early game, we recommend crafting Iron weapons and armor, as this will prepare you for the midgame when searching for rarer resources far from spawn. Iron Ore can easily be found in caves in the Emerald Grove biomes, which is where most players start.
Once you have enough Iron Ore, smelt it into Iron Ingots using a Furnace, then take them to your crafting tables to make Iron-tier equipment such as the Iron Sword or Iron Armor.

Farming allows you to plant seeds, water them, and harvest crops to obtain Essence of Life and ingredients for advanced dishes. These cooked dishes then provide different stat bonuses when consumed, such as increased Health Regen and a Stamina Boost.
Using a Farmer's Workbench, craft basic farming tools like the Crude Hoe and Watering Can, then plant and water seeds to gain Essence of Life and harvest crops. Use the ingredients to cook advances dishes with the Chef's Stove, helping you prepare better for the midgame.
