You can craft a Backpack from a Workbench using Iron Ingots and Medium Leather in Hytale. Learn how to craft and unlock a Backpack, as well as how to upgrade its inventory space, in this guide!

Build a Workbench

Craft Workbench

Item Requirements
Workbench ・Any Tree Log x4
・Any Stone x3

The first step to crafting a Backpack is by building a Workbench. You can craft a Workbench by gathering 4 Any Tree Log and 3 Any Stone.

Make sure that you place your Workbench in the correct place as relocating it resets its upgrade level.

Craft the Backpack

New Backpack Requirements

Backpack ・Iron Ingots x8
・Medium Leather x8

Now that you have a Workbench, you can now craft the Backpack, which requires 8 Iron Ingots and 8 Medium Leather. Gather the needed materials to craft the Backpack!

Use Backpack in Hotbar

Equip and Use Backpack

After crafting the Backpack, equip it on your hotbar and use it (Right Click by default). This will unlock the Backpack tab, which you can access by clicking on the Backpack icon under the Memories icon when you open your inventory.

How to Upgrade Your Backpack

These are the upgrade requirements as of Update 1.

Upgrade the Workbench to Tier 2

Upgrade Workbench Tier 3

Item Requirements
Workbench Tier 2 ・Copper Ingots x30
・Iron Ingots x20
・Linen Scraps x20

To upgrade your Backpack's inventory space, you need to upgrade your Workbench to Tier 2. To do so, you will need 30 Copper Ingots, 20 Iron Ingots, and 20 Linen Scraps.

When you have the needed materials, interact with your Workbench and press the Upgrade button.

Craft Backpack Upgrade I

Upgrade Backpack

Backpack Upgrade I
(18 slots)		 ・Cindercloth Scraps x40
・Cobalt Ingots x8
・Heavy Leather x24

Once your Workbench reaches Tier 2, you can then craft Backpack Uprade I using 40 Cindercloth Scraps, 8 Cobalt Ingots, and 24 Heavy Leather.

Crafting and using the upgrade will increase your backpack space to 18.

Unlock 100 Memories

To unlock Backpack Upgrade II, you must first unlock 100 Memories. To do so, you must explore the world and gather Memories from mobs, both passive and aggressive.

Remember to return to the Forgotten Temple to turn in the Memories regularly, as you can only hold 48 Memories at a time.

Craft Backpack Upgrade II

Backpack Upgrade II
(27 slots)		 ・Voidheart x1
・Adamantite Ingots x8
・Storm Leathers x16

When you have unlocked 100 Memories, you will also unlock the recipe for Backpack Upgrade II, which requires 1 Voidheart, 8 Adamantite Ingots, and 16 Storm Leathers.

Crafting and using the upgrade will increase your backpack space to 27.
