Crystal Shards are mined from Crystals and used to craft a variety of decorative items in Hytale. Here's a list of all Crystal Shard types available in the game, where to find them, and how to use Crystal Shards!
List of Contents
Crystal Shards are obtained by mining Crystals, which are mostly found in specific biomes called Zones, though a majority of the Crystal Shards listed below can be found in the underground jungle of the Devastated Lands (Zone 4).
Crystal Shards can be mined with any Pickaxe, but we recommend using at least an Iron Pickaxe for more efficient mining.
| Material | How to Get |
|---|---|
Blue Crystal Shards |
![]() Commonly found on the surface of cold biomes, usually beneath snowy trees that glow brightly at night, as well as in underground caverns. Blue Crystals can also be found on the ceiling of the underground jungle in volcanic biomes. You can build a platform to reach the top and use your pickaxe to mine the crystals. |
Cyan Crystal Shards |
![]() Found in Blue Forest biomes. Head towards the lake of the biome and you should see a lot of Cyan Crystals there. |
Green Crystal Shards |
![]() Dropped by Earthen Golems, which are found guarding the Forgotten Temple Gateway near spawn. Can also be mined underground in most biomes. |
Purple Crystal Shards |
![]() Found in the ceiling of the underground jungle in volcanic biomes. You can build a platform to reach the top and use your pickaxe to mine the crystals. |
Red Crystal Shards |
![]() Can be mined on the surface or underground of the Devastated Lands or volacnic biome. It is safer to mine it on the surface, but are scarce compared to the ones you can find in underground caverns. |
White Crystal Shards |
![]() Found in the magma layer of the world, usually surrounding Diamonds. White Crystals do not spawn in caverns, so you’ll need to mine solid blocks to find it. |
Yellow Crystal Shards |
![]() Found in the underground jungle of volcanic biomes, usually on the ground near trees. |

Crystal Shards are mostly used to craft decorative items at the Furniture Workbench, especially seasonal items such as the Winter Bauble, Winter Light, and Winter Lights.
You can also use the Builder’s Workbench to convert Crystal Shards back into Crystal blocks if you want to use them as decoration.

Crystal Shards are also used to craft higher-tier Seeds at the Farmer’s Workbench. You may need to find their recipes first and upgrade your Farmer’s Workbench to at least Tier 8 to unlock Seed recipes that require Crystal Shards.
